kody
what is the best 410 ammo you have used im talking about 11 grms and 14 grms iv have been using express 14grms in 6s and 7s today with few results in a yildiz 1/2 and full choke 12 shots and only 2 birds in the bag not boasting but im a fairly good shot so is it the ammo or what Dave
psycho
Its not the gun. eley are good cartridge I would try 18 grain long in sub and sonic I have had good results with both fourlongs also group well and are quite quiet but I prefers the bigger load Edited October 31, 2015 by psycho
sitsinhedges
I would buy Fiocchi 3"
Stonepark
If your limited to 14g or less in 2.5inch chambers, you should be using at most 7.5 shot in 14g and 8 shot in 12g, both of which will pattern to 25 yards and have enough energy to kill. If you can handle 3 inch. 18 or 19g loads in 7 will give you 30 to 35 yards.
rovercoupe
In 2.5" round me there is nothing but 6s and am thinking about hand stuffing a few in 7s and 8s for the clays and see if this improves things.
Stormhound
Lyalvale Express Supreme .410 (65mm) 14g in 6 or 7 work for me. Just make sure to keep to sensible ranges.
ChrisAsh
Full choke may be a bit to tight on a yildiz try 3 and 4 star or 2x4 star chokes insead
Dasher
Think some of the issues with the .410 is the amount of distance during which the shot pattern is usable i.e. when the shot leaves the barrel it is very dense until it reaches somewhere in the region of 15yrds at which point, assuming shot sizes are around #6-8, it opens up to an acceptable density until 25-30yrds (dependant on cartridge loading) after which the pattern fails. This means that really the shot pattern is only usable for 10 to 15yrds. Try shooting some patterns at close range to see. Often birds shot at close range with my .410 escape completely unharmed, or once in a while I connect and find nothing left for the pot! As for best cartridge in 2.5" then 14g #7.5 clay loads i.e. eley trap.
kody
Full choke may be a bit to tight on a yildiz try 3 and 4 star or 2x4 star chokes insead its fixed choke 1/2 and full sxs this may be interesting i found out that the hull clay and game are 125fps faster than express
littlerob
Eley or fiocchi in .410 the way forward
kody
i use fiochi in 12 gauge 32grms plaswads one hell of a cartridge
Wilts#Dave
Gamebore 16g magnums in 6/7 shot are my favourites in my hushpower pump, really so hit hard out to 30 yards. Wasn't overly impressed with the express 14g to be honest, thought the Eley four long 12g were better!
bruno22rf
I wouldn't worry too much-last w/end I got 1 pigeon for 18 shots-with a 12g over decoys
dessyb
fiochi in my Mossberg hushpower. done great over decoys
Dangerous Brian
It might not be the ammo. If you are used to swinging a 12 gauge, swapping to a very light .410 is likely to wreak havoc with consistency. I had a yildiz sbs in .410 and I was forever stopping the gun as there was so little momentum. Best thing to do would be get some sheets of paper and pattern a few shells, then go and have a round of skeet with your favourite brand. I would also strongly recommend home loading for the .410. That way you can get the combination that suits you best. Stick at it- it's a great little gauge. Brian
motty
The speed should make next to no difference. its fixed choke 1/2 and full sxs this may be interesting i found out that the hull clay and game are 125fps faster than express
Hector Vector
I'm in agreement with Dangerous Brian. I've just started using a .410 and it's so light (about 4.5lbs) that you do have make a concious effort to swing through the the shot; there's a lot less inertia to carry it through than with a larger bore gun. Still works pretty well though. Last time out decoying shot 24 Pigeon for 49 shots which is about right for me, whatever gun I'm using.
