Ninth Planet Discovered

Astronomers say a Neptune-sized planet lurks beyond Pluto.

The solar system appears to have a new ninth planet. Today, two scientists announced evidence that a body nearly the size of Neptune—but as yet unseen—orbits the sun every 15,000 years. During the solar system’s infancy 4.5 billion years ago, they say, the giant planet was knocked out of the planet-forming region near the sun. Slowed down by gas, the planet settled into a distant elliptical orbit, where it still lurks today.

The claim is the strongest yet in the centuries-long search for a “Planet X” beyond Neptune. (Shouldn`t that be Planet IX?)

More inferred than discovered: there are some odd patterns of motion shown by some of the objects in the Kuyper belt, which could most logically be explained by the presence of a ninth planet in a very distant, highly elliptical orbit. This possible planet has not yet actually been seen, but a lot of people are looking very hard!

And what possible bearing does it have on anyone's life, about time they stopped wasting money on space and spend it where it matters!

I think it is all in preparation for the political elite to decamp Earth, once the increased population they have presided over, has used all the natural resources and started eating each other like rats.

If scientists only concentrated on 'spend it where it matters' research then you would not be reading this reply, would not have ever heard of the internet, and would probably be living in a mud hut with a spear to hunt with.

Can't stop discovery - It is in the makeup of mankind.

+2 what about upping the funds on cancer research, it's about time they cracked that, it amazes me that in the last 40 years they have only gone from saving 1 in 4 to 2 in 4

thats right, but you find with research into cancer and other deseases that they spend millions to find something that could help, just to say we cant manufactuer that drug cos it costs too much...
