Scully
My beautiful Renato Gamba Daytona has developed a crack through the hand; I almost cried. No misuse, just one of those things. It is insured. It has stunning wood and I have received quotes ranging from between 2k to 3.5k to replace and restock with likewise graded wood. I emailed Renato Gamba and asked for a quote, and they replied yesterday with a quote of €1800 as it is grade C wood, and a particularly nice one apparently. What I wasn't expecting was for them to suggest I travel to Brescia with the gun so they can restore it and fit the gun personally to me. Anyone done this? I'm not bothered about the flight but how much would a professional gunfitting session by the manufacturer cost? Of course I could simply ask them, but not having anything to compare it with I wouldn't know whether it was extortionate or not. Anyone? buze
@Scully, I'm interested in your "it's insured" comment -- do you pay special insurance for guns, or are you able to do a claim on a normal household insurance?
Scully
They are all insured independently of my household insurance. I wouldn't be surprised if it were FOC? I wondered that; suppose I wont know 'til I ask. chance of a lifetime, would you do it otherwise. enjoy Probably not. m Mentioned it to OH as she may wonder where I'd gone; but she now wants to come with me. shaun4860
@Scully, I'm interested in your "it's insured" comment -- do you pay special insurance for guns, or are you able to do a claim on a normal household insurance? My guns are insured on house insurance for theft or accidental damage up to £3k, I pay around 5-6 pound per month for this, They aren't covered for actual shooting as in 3rd party, that on my shooting insurance, Mine are listed as sporting equipment but they know they are guns

CharlieT
Too good an experience to pass up on and should not cost an arm and a leg. There are some fairly cheap flights available and some reasonable hotels as it's not a major tourist town. Go for it, you know it makes sense and whilst you're there, would you be kind enough to bring me back a nice bottle or two of olive oil and a kilo of gorgonzola. Catamong
I would expect the 1800 Euro cost to include fitting, which in itself is not a big job. Are you sure your insurance will cover the cost, as it's not accidental damage or theft..? I had to send a set of triggers back to Gamba for my Daytona, it was a painfully expensive experience, be warned, I would obtain quotes for re-stocking from somebody here, if insurers are involved they will probably insist on it..? Whitebridges
It's a very nice gun. Were you measured up for the last set of wood before it broke? Why not take the timber off and send it back for matching wood if it was "standard". The trouble is as you get older eyes and limbs get wonky and at your age Scully you might just need to start again

Found one or two cheap flights but have set a mate on the task; he is a master at finding the cheapest rail, boat and air fares. Will let you know about the olive oil and kilo of Gorgonzola, so long as the cheese is for your own personal use and you're not cutting it with anything to sell on. Cat. Yes, had my doubts too a sit wasn't an accident, but it is insured. I have two separate quotes for repair work, a third one is for more than the gun is insured for. Pleased to hear you think the fitting may be included; suppose I'll find out eventually. It's a very nice gun. Were you measured up for the last set of wood before it broke? I fully intended to send the stock but they want the serial number as all their guns are on record, and asked me if I would care to take the gun and myself to them for fitting. I know what you mean about starting again; I recently discovered I now have a left master eye after years of having central vision. It explains why I have missed some targets I wouldn't normally expect to. Good job my other gun has an adjustable stock. Luck with me tends to be highs and lows, and not much in between. The stock unfortunately cracked, but fortunately it was insured. I now find myself with a dream of a chance to visit Brescia and for the right reason, but yesterday discovered my daughter has unwittingly ( thought she was on unlimited everything on new phone....she's not ) run up an astronomical mobile phone bill last month ( even the girl on customer services was shocked ) which has taken a bit of the shine off the excitement of this, but that's life. Will see what mate can come up with regards cheap flights etc.
guzzicat
Go for it, I read an article by someone who flew to Italy & had an English gun re/stocked , had a mini holiday & saved money on U/K quote.
vmaxphil
I'd go for it, of not give Tim Greenwood a shout he should be able to repair it, he repaired my dt10 even the gmk gunsmith couldn't tell till he took the stock off

Cat. My immediate thoughts too. It's interesting if the insurers have decided to pay up because it's more the result of wear and tear or even incorrect manufacturing on occasion (some makes are more prone than others).
