ClayJay
Direct line have worked for me for my last two quotes, they'd beat other comparison insurers by £200-300!

Lord Geordie
Yeah there was a few companies offered something called fuel and go I think. Insurance was part of the package. Great for kids starting out to get some NCD under their belt. Some offered the first 2 or 3 years insurance as part of the package.
Lloyd90
Yea I think the add fuel and go may be a good option for you. I reckon car companies like it as it gets them into the cycle of having a new car and trading it on for another new one every few years. Davyo
I know my mates son would be paying over £200 per mth insurance on a 1.2 Corsa. But yet he can get a brand new one from Evans Halshaw @£149 with £149 deposit with free insurance for 1 yr.No brainer I think. I was going to give my son my 60 plate Citreon c3 picasso but insurance was going to be £1600 (with black box fitted ).However we fell out but that's another story.Hed be better of getting a new C1 or fiesta or similar. I think all these offers however, it's compulsory that a black box is fitted.

team tractor
My lads at work have had boxes fitted for the first year . It tells the insurance everything and they have had mates with their policies cancelled for speeding. Try insurance after a policy was cancelled lol. The just add fuel is 21 and over normally as my mrs wasn't old enough when we tried 3 years ago.
Davyo
If the box is fitted and driving is questionable can privileges be revoked?leaving you with balance of agreement to fund? The black box just makes them not drive likwe a Muppet, and not be out at stupid hours. (They can select to have adjusted to suit their hour, for example if they work a night shift).I don't think you can get away from the black box to be honest, even putting a young driver on your own insurance these days 90% of companies want a box fitted. As far as having a policy cancelled for speeding ,'well that's driving like a Muppet' even worse when you already have a box fitted and you are aware of the terms and condition.Just another life saved really or a pedestrians live saved. Thats not quite what i ment, the box will not make the driver do anything, it should make them consider its function and act accordingly, I had a box 3 years ago,as it was the cheapest premium, i was 47 at the time. the box will know the everymove and youngsters are quite likely to act with there heart, could the insurance part be revoked leaving the rest of the term to pay. If i was a provider this clause would be in my terms so as to weed out the worst. A few years ago my ex's son had the same dilemma, we managed to get a 10 month policy that on a claim free 10 mths gave a full years transferrable bonus. As he was working we did halves, so his money was at risk of his driving. He did have a few bumps, all on his own thankfully and his punto looked a tad battered after two years but he made the NCB and moved on. I wish you the best with this as costs are eyewatering. On balance, my own first insurance for a mini 850 worth 120 quid way back in 1985 was 10 times my weekly take home pay, are today costs so far removed? or are the numbers just bigger. I took home £32 back then. Edited April 22, 2017 by Rupert

Cosd
Lowest quote is £1800 with the rac. That's with a black boxBoth my girls started driving within 8 months of each other. So I feel your pain I was being quoted almost £2500 third party for an older car worth around £1500. I ended up getting them. Fiat 500 each with insurance costing £1600 fully comp each with Smart Miles who are part of Hastings I believe. The good news is that on renewal, leaving the black box in, the new quotes were less than £500 each. Edited April 22, 2017 by Cosd
rimfire4969
My daughter is insured with Autosaints with a black box fitted, they give us access to a dashboard that keeps an eye on her speed and where the car is it also scores the driving 0 - 100%. norfolk dumpling
Of course when we leave EU girls will get cheaper rates!! Some muppet Belgium MEP spotted we have differential rates - girls are so so much better (my old job was motor insurance) - and we had to bring them into line. After a couple of years they will find their own level but for new drivers this is the case and was so so stupid.

Mackenzie
It's not just if it's a powerful car it's also off how many of them get crashed by young drivers, as they view that make and model to statistical more likely to crash. When i was 19 (only last year) i was payed £2800 for the year
triumphant59
My daughter is 24 now, lives in London and doesn't own a car but from 17 to 21 she had a seat Arosa 1l and insured with Diamond. From memory premiums started at around £800 but had dropped to £300 ish by the time she was
ferguson_tom
My worry with these black boxes are for the young lads.....how on earth are they going to get girlfriends? Any self respecting 17 year old knows couple of handbrake turns followed by a decent wheel spin is the key to any young ladies knickers. A lot of these just add fuel deals aren't as good as they look, often what they do is just add the cost the insurance to the deal and you pay interest on that as well so look into them carefully. £1800 isnt bad i paid £1500 11 years ago for my first years insurance unfortunately just got to suck it up for a while it will come down quite quickly after the first year. rec-baller
Hi chaps. Just too let you know I got reccomend a company called Igenie. Got a quote of £1500 online for an 09 plate citreon c1. I rang them up too make sure I done everything ok . When i.d finished talking the lady on the phone said the quote was wrong ---- it should be £1300🤣🤣 so I was very pleased at that. I didn't think that was bad for a new driver. Also with the black box fitted we can monitor he driving. Also if she's a good driver she gets money back every 3 months
