Muddy Funker
Haix brown surplus, brilliant boots had mine for two years of hard use so far. Yep, Haix High Liability, look like clown boots but are superb. Possibly still current army issue. You'll get a new pair for that budget. Lightweight and waterproof. moor man
+1 for Haix high liability, proof them in the winter (keeping your feet dry) and not in the summer (for breathability). Bought mine off here for £30 (good secondhand)
WinchesterDave
Haix high liability got me through my TA training with no issues at all. However, my Altbergs were better
Dangerous Brian
Another vote for Hiax high liability. If you buy from "the bay" make sure you don't end up with the desert (suede) version.
Blackpowder
Thank you for the replies it looks like a vote for Hiax. Blackpowder
tikka.223
Jolly boots, the riot squad ones. Gore tex and very comfortable. What size feet have you got? Might be able to sort you out with a pair.

Bungle The Bear
I posted on here a few months back looking for any info on Altberg Defender boots ( Brand new for £50 ) I received lots of positive feedback, I use the recommended Leder Gris to keep them fed and waterproof They've hardly been of my feet since, I will be an Altberg devotee from now on. They are the bargain of the century without a doubt, and far comfier and lighter than my Meindels, which were brilliant boots too to be fair, but no way I will pay Meindel amount of money for boots again. Dazza9t9
I had a couple of pairs of altbergs and I love them! I don't live far from the altberg factory in Richmond which is a bonus too! Highly recommended and cannot speak highly enough of them! I bought them from the army surplus store in Lanark, I do believe they get them in regularly, and yes they are wide G fitting, they come with a pair of sole inserts which allows you a bit of come and go too. As I said earlier they are incredible value, armysurplusclothinglanark.com 01555 660097
the enigma
I used to wear to German Para boots, which used to be a good hard wearing, comfortable boot, but with the last couple of pairs, the soles started to separate from the boot. I've since change to Hiax High Liability, quite a good boot, but I've noticed that the sides of the soles at the heels have started to perish. Going to give the Altbergs a try next time. white van man
I've tried a few, the worst being Harkila. Now I've got Altbergs there's no going back. Steve.

bigmcg
My trusty extreme cold weather boots have started to leak after 5 years of abuse. Just ordered a pair of Haix, new in box for £60 from evilbay.
Savhmr
Altberg Defenders every time. Nothing I've ever owned has come close, lasted as long or kept my feet as comfy and dry. Genuine 4 season boot. Was so impressed that I also bought some Altberg Tethras for hiking. best hiking boots I've ever owned.
