Jaymo
It’s a known sales formula and one that I walk away from every time I come across it. Bloody infuriating and like a comedy act

I went into a BMW showroom the week before I ordered my Tesla. The salesman was trying to sell me gap insurance, paint protection and wheel insurance even before we had discussed specific cars and price. Then when I gave the spec of car I wanted with 'must have' options he comes back with completely different specs. I didn't stay long. Davyo
Ive been to Four today, one guy was even half way across the forecourt before i had a chance to get out the car. The idiot at Ford replied "some customers expect too much"when I asked if they could sort out a few marks.Only £6500 budget for a 2nd car im not expecting a new car but at least it needs to be presentable. These are big francise dealers as well not back street wheeler dealers. The bloke at Motorpoint kept following me over the car lot waving a leaflet shouting "it explains how we work"Wasn't best please when I said "It's simple mate you leave me alone to look.I then say I want that car,we go to your card machine and I pay, then we do the boring paper bit & then I drive away simple" Edited October 2, 2017 by Davyo
Dougy
I recently went to Gordon Lamb at Chesterfield to buy a pick-up, never have any problem at all from them, just make it very clear that i dont do pushy sales talk and dont want any extra's "at all". The guy just smiled and said that he had just been told before by his boss about me, who we had dealt with some years previous. I must have made a good impression last time. lol I just cant stand pushy sales folk. I once turned my pockets out in a shop to a sales women who was following me round, she kept asking me if i needed any help. Showing her my empty pockets like elephants ears and the bits of fluff hidden deep in the corners she eventually got the message and drifted back into a draw somewhere like dry ice. Puggers
I nipped into one of those car warehouses yesterday and the lad lounging in the entrace way lept to his feet like he'd been stung on the backside by a hornet. His opening line was "hello sir, are you here to look at a car?" I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he was new as his shiney suit was still shiney and his pointy shoes were still very pointy. I went home as I was then going to head to Asda for some shopping but didn't want to be accosted on the way in and then followed for a few minutes asking if I was there to buy food. Not all places are the same, but I do now prefer to walk into a showroom and be ignored with distain by the salesmen.

hodge911
GAP is not worth the paper its written on but they get commission on every extra they sell you . that's how they increase their salary as they are on a poop basic wage but bulk it up by selling as many EXTRAS & warranties as they can . my son fell for it and took out the GAP as he was told "it will cover all your payments should you not be able to pay them " the minute he needed it because he was made unemployed low and behold he got the reply of " sorry it does not cover your circumstances of unemployment " it was also then we found out that Bristol street had financed his car via a black horse personal loan secured against the car which is a whole different kettle of fish . but that what happens when your 18yr old son thinks he,s doing good by going and buying his first car on his own .......... a salesmans dream Edited October 3, 2017 by hodge911

It is designed to fill the 'gap' between what is owed on finance and the value of the car if it is written off. Otherwise you can be left owing more than the value of the car. Never buy it from the showroom though. Better value to be found on-line. Edited October 3, 2017 by AVB
ips
GAP can have benefits however never pay the offered price, you can barter about 30% off...if you consider it to be something you want.

By the way I am foroly enjoying reading how people get the hump when some poor chap in pointy shoes tries to do his job, wasn't that long ago I was equally foroly enjoying reading people moan about getting ignored by salesmen and walking out in disgust. FWIW I've known plumbers, builders, leccies, joiners, carpet fitters, bank staff, supermarket workers, etc, etc, who also range from very very good to abysmal. Pigeonshooter22
You're just around the corner from me if you went to Bristol Street Motors. I'd try and find a decent one private. I bought my first car from a "so called good" garage and it had constant problems, had to keep going back etc, last 2 cars bought private and they've been better great cars, big gamble but if you find a decent one with low mileage and full service history your get something decent for 6k! Can't stand car salesman! Edited October 3, 2017 by Pigeonshooter22
SirDread
I detest car salesmen and buying cars. There only mission is to extract as much £'s out of you as possible. Tell you how they only have a couple hundred quid profit in a £25k car. Absolute tosh. You have to go through a full interview with every type of insurance available because they are now regulated by some authority or other because they have no morals, are economical with the truth is an understatement and provide no customer assistance post the sale. Always been the same. Now there are so many ways of buying a car on finance, but they only want you to take the version that gives them the biggest kicker. Just another flavour of corporate greed and facilitating irresponsible lending.
Dellbert
travelled about 40 miles to view a van with a mate .The phone call to the dealer (volkswagen) was 'must be short wheel base ,higher capacity , not auto and not white mo more than 18 months old .' yes we have 8 that fit your needs sir . off we go to get shown 6 white vans of varying lengths a crew cab van and a very nice black van which ticked all the boxes but was auto .The stroppy salesman kept asking why we wernt buying so for the 3rd time i explained 'there not what he ******* wants ....
