Gungoesbang
Looking at buying a nice looking o/u game gun for all round pheasant shooting. I have looked at a few, but could do with some advice. What are your thoughts on these on which is best, and what other guns should I be looking at in the same price range: - Caesar guerini Magnus/Maxum game - does anyone know the difference between them? - Chapuis (bespoke) - Rizzini Artemis/round body

The ellipse curve does look nice, thanks for the suggestion.
theshootist
I had a look at a fellow gun's side plated B25 this season, straight hand roach belly stock. That would be my choice, but it maybe a bit more than 3.

Westley
Although the Chapius is a lovely looking gun, there does not seem to be many around to be able to check on their reliability. Against that, there are several used really nice Rizzini guns about which would save you enough to be able to get it fitted. Some Gunshops (Elderkins for one) offer free fitting on new or USED guns. As always though, I would suggest you really need to try them.
buze
I agree that Rizzini and Chapuis 'leverage' the fitting when buying a gun -CG doesn't do that (yet?)- that is worth something; other than that, all of the 3 brands seems to be competing on the same segment for guns around that price range. You get sideplated O/U (or a cheaper SxS of perhaps a notch better grade) for that sort of money. The Miroku might be good value, but it looks like everyone else's gun -- and the engraving can't compare to what you get with the previous 3 brands... Also, all 3 brands have 'shallow actions' compared to the browning design. I swear I shoot better when the engraving is pretty. it's like go-faster stripes, it's well known they add a few BHPs to *any* car :-)
adzyvilla
Another vote for mk60 grade 5, although unless you are tackling only high birds, you might want to go for something with shorter barrels

The mk60 HP are great value and brilliant CG are also a good buy early ones had issues but seem resolved now, Rizzini are nice looking not a fan of their handling Chapies not seen enough

There really is so much choice for the op, it's getting harder and harder to make decisions.

The Mk60 High Phesant come in 32" and 30" nothing wrong with 32" guns for normal/traditional pheasants either.
winnie&bezza
Or the new 695 game.

I prefer my 28" for game shooting, but it's horses for courses. Tried using 32" on pheasants a few times but couldn't get on with them. But obviously lots of people do like them or miroku and CG wouldn't be selling them.

Maxum has better wood (sometimes) and much heavier engraving. I've tried about a dozen B Rizzinis over the last 3-4 years and whilst they're similar in many ways they all felt very second rate compared with CGs. No idea about Chapuis but I do like knowing that should a gun need warranty attention or - heaven forbid - develops a fault, there's a sound support organisation available. That pretty much rules out Chapuis and I seriously doubt Rizzini backup is anywhere near as good as it is with CGs.

JRDS
For Game buy a nice SBS and get it fitted, I have shot OU for years and this seaon have shot with a 1947 AYA Pigeon Gun a bit harder to shoot but so nice being traditional and using a bit of history. It adds something to your day.

Dave at kelton
Look out for a John Macnab sideplate. Made by B Rizzini they are a fraction of the price of a new Rizzini, handle fantastically and the semi pistol grip stock gives it a real game gun feel.
