I'll look it out and try and read it. In the meantime I can understand why a generation of young men walked knowingly into machine gun fire in 1916.

I’m not sure what it has to do with Brexit, but reasons are many and varied, with ultimately it coming down to not wanting to let down ones friends.

Are these remainers stupid ?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7560479/Rebel-MPs-plan-ambush-Boris-Johnson-force-second-Brexit-referendum.html?ico=pushly-notifcation-small

Labour's Hilary Benn said he was looking at ways to get MPs to support a 'people's vote' when the Commons returns for a special Saturday sitting on October 19.

Those behind the plan want a lengthy Brexit extension and a new referendum by the end of March next year – with a general election only following afterwards.

So no GE  , another 6 months delay , costing 6 + billion quid, another referendum , completely ignoring the first ?

And allies of Jeremy Corbyn are putting intense pressure on the Labour leader to support the strategy as they fear that holding a general election first could result in a Tory victory and then a hard Brexit.

So I suppose usurping the Ref result, and not even giving the public a vote via GE , will endear the people to voting labour in 6 months time
Just by even discussing such a course, is losing the opposition support, they are living on another planet !
They want a REALLY hard Brexit ? Theyre going the right way about it.

I think someone needs to explain to these out of touch MPs, that Brexiteers being thick is just a figure of speech, its not actually true.
But by these sort of actions, its not only leavers they believe stupid, its everyone.

Hilary Benn is not stupid - but he is very arrogant and devious - like his father (who pretended to be poor and preached socialism, but was in fact very wealthy and practised capitalism including aggressive tax avoidance).

His plan is to keep delaying until they can get a majority for a remain policy.  He has no interest in democracy only in getting his own way (also like his father)

Then he is not only arrogant , undemocratic and devious, he is a corrupt, lying toe rag.

All the qualities necessary to be a labour politician.

Soon to be an ex labour politician hopefully.

Even Tusk is now saying there are positive signals around the prospect of a deal, let's just hope everyone involved is acting with integrity here, for all our sakes...

Smoke and mirrors.
The EU realises it has been exposed as intransigent, now seeking to appear like its trying really hard to appease the UK.
The real deal is next week , where the EU will wring its hands at the conference, whilst blaming 'nationalist' elements in the tory and Brexit party, for destroying any chance of a peaceful deal.
The lie is exposed by questioning exactly HOW the EU has compromised, what has changed in their position ?

This was always how it was going to be played.
Boring in its predictability .

He may be positive, doesn't mean those in Parliament will be.

That is indeed another matter.

You might well be right, you might equally be well wrong - unless you have a time machine and already know what happens on 31st Oct 😛

And of course equally BoJo could be lying to everyone through his back teeth and playing an identical reverse game as you suggest the EU are guilty of

I dont , but it would appear most remainers do , as they constantly predict doom when we leave 😛

When the prize is £39 billion, you cannot expect integrity from a politician.

I had dinner with his dad at Woburn. What a fascinating man. The places he had been and the life he had was simply awe inspiring. I was lucky enough to be given a copy of his book 'To be a Daniel'. Everything he did including the dinner I had with him was recorded.

We need to speed up unwanted migrant exit and STOP any coming that we do not need and that will not add to our wonderful country!

WE needed to do this years and years ago, it was obvious what was happening then.

What a fascinating man.

He may well have been a fascinating man ........ but much of it was a carefully maintained illusion.

  • He came from a very wealthy publishing family - with a successful family business and a large country estate (in Essex I believe) and a substantial town property in London's Holland Park.
  • He was born Anthony Wedgewood Benn - and became The Honourable Anthony Wedgewood Benn when his father accepted a peerage which he shortened to Tony Benn ..... presumably to look less privileged.
  • He should have become Viscount Stansgate on the death of his father - but he went through a procedure to renouce the title so that he could become an MP
  • He married an American heiress Caroline DeCamp
  • He used aggressive tax avoidance measures for his own family to mitigate against inheritance tax (whilst campaigning for the prevention of inherited wealth)
  • Like his followers, Corbyn and McDonnell, he supported terrorists including the IRA and like Corbyn - was strongly anti the EU (right from the start) and was a strong supporter of industrial strike action to bring down governments with which he did not agree.

In summary, a very typical 'Champagne socialist'.
