Must admit I much prefer a chunky trap fore end on my guns; just a personal preference. Admittedly I was very inconsistent on it for the first few visits, but seem to find it quickly and stay on it nowadays. I use tighter chokes but mate has done it with 1/4 and 1/2. I am managing with cylinder and improved 21 gm 7.5 if I keep the swing going. I find the trick when I do get on them is making sure I get on the line as it’s easy to miss up the side. On the first tower stand one bird veers off to the left, ( can't recall which one it is now ) which can catch you out. Mate was struggling with his Miroku and tried to shoot the pair as crossers eventually, but still to no avail. He seems to struggle with high driven at the moment for some reason. It'll be interesting when they raise the traps even higher...those midis will look very small. 🙂
figgy
I used to have a Damascus London made live pigeon gun. Took some long and high birds with it. It wouldn't handle the modern carts for the stuff you see Dave Carrie shoot.
Tedly47
I have a mk60 HP and for the money I paid (it was a browning ex display gun which went to all the shows, so the wood is extra nice) I can't fault it... The gun fits me like a glove and soaks up recoil really well, I've shot some real stonkers with it consistently!! Oh and I shoot skeet with it as well!! Gerry78
My mate shoots high pheasants 2-4 times a year with a browning 525 game gun the gun fits him perfectly he just uses tighter chokes to many companies marketing specialists shotguns If your gun fits then I don’t see the reason in buying so called specialists Guns

If you have a bit of choke and a decent cartridge then your ok. These high bird shoots aren’t new; been there for long time where most people turned up with 28/30” game guns and used 30-34g 5’s. Nowadays we have more specialised equipment To make it a bit easier but the principle is still the same. IMO one of the sweetest handling guns is/was a 32” gold e beretta . Saw many of them used in West Country as single guns or pairs
Perazzishot
High bird and extreme are different, and we are going back to a debate which has been exhausted! what is someone's high bird! I've shot many 100's of shoots professing to show high birds! My good friend was on a partridge shoot yesterday on 2 drives the partridges could not of been any lower than 80yards as the tops of the trees were 80 yards measured from the ground. The trees they flew over on the other bank they were between 70-100 yards. The other 2 drives were about 5 yards lower. They didn't quite make the 500 bag. One very good shot I know used his 20g all day, and had his fair share. My latest purchase of the pair of the Miroku's 18.3 bore are to allow me to use fibre where required as they were yesterday, specialist guns and cartridges have a place without doubt! True but for example Llechweddygarth you can shoot it and I have seen it done with a side by side and 30g 4’s, choked 1/2 & 3/4. Infact the day in late October we are there one friend will use his 16g over under with 28g 4.5’s and does ok. My other friend with his Rizzini Exmoor guns designed for extreme stuff will do better but marginally

There and Warter are the main reasons for purchasing the Miroku's to perform better with the required shells and kill cleanly where possible! They are so ugly, yet I love them, although not sure about gold, that's a step too far for me, but if they were been given to me sure I could get used to it! Some recent adverts I have seen suggest Richard Faulds is using K guns although appears still using CG on the circuit Ross Neville certainly uses his K guns to great effect, maybe not convential but certainly effective! The broadleaved trees rarely exceed 20 yards.

You`ve got a new UK record tree there ! FCS claim that the 66.4m Douglas Fir was Britains tallest tree. Thing is, these 80-90 yard birds keep getting mentioned. I still haven't seen any proper pattern tests at those distances, that would prove the cartridge's suitability.
