Anyone on here stepping up? I was glad to hear that since officially announced (yesterday I believe) asking for 250,000 volunteers, today they already have 170,000 people that have signed up for the effort.

I would sign up but am already working in Hospital discharge. In case anyone followed my other recent thread about that job I applied for, I have been offered it, but they don't think they can release me at the moment to go. Both teams are highly essential services mind so we shall see which one is the highest need, I am happy to just carry on working where I can help the most.

Soon there will be a growing number of post corona people who will be able to come and go without risk to themselves or others.

That’s only if you are immune to it after first contracting it. There’s speculation at the moment that you can get it twice. But no one is really sure yet.

OH has signed up. She is a kind, thoughtful person, with a wonderful heart.
She is not a confident driver, so has volunteered to deliver essentials locally, and will call people who are isolated or in need of a chat.....she’s very good at talking, so has found her vocation! 😀

That's true of all viruses, immunity is not perfect and there will always be some people who do

How many and how severely only time will tell

I get your tongue in cheek humour but good for her, she might take it further later on and join the Samaritans or similar.. this virus stuff has brought out the decent side of humanity that is often not seen

Agree entirely. Since one of her sisters died of alcoholism related issues a couple of years ago, she has been looking for some means of helping others who have gone through similar experiences. She fancied some sort of counselling work but to become properly qualified she needed to do a degree course. She is very intelligent and could no doubt do it, but couldn’t afford the course unfortunately.
She will thrive if she can be of help.

Good luck to her,, just looked,  To be a Samaritan volunteer you need to able to listen  and perhaps talk ! .

To do with covid 19 we currently have almost as many volunteers here as there is population, with the elderly population lets hope it stays that way !

My best mate from school, who remains my closest and dearest life long friend has applied.

Really not the kind of person who you'd think would step up to this but he's a cabbie and his work is non-existent - his wife and kids are still working and getting paid so he's putting himself to use.

There are many things, kind gestures and people to be proud of at present.

And the worse! Some local Independent shops and unscrupulous internet carpetbaggers selling difficult to get items at many times the RRP!......

Bang on!

I hope everyone remembers and keeps note of the companies who have tried to profiteer and exploit the countries time of need.

I think the notion is losing its appeal now for OH! 🙂

She has to go into town today to collect her Dads prescription, but found there to be a looonnngggg queue outside the medical centre. After two and a half hours she had only move a few yards and was then told by a nurse that they would have to disperse as it was deemed too risky to queue, even though the two metre rule was being observed. She was given a slot for the afternoon but on her return found the queue to be just as long!
She got home just before me around 5ish, sunburnt and fed up! 😃

She has very fine skin and is sat next to me as I type this, with a face like a ripe tomato! 😂

Hi MM

Thanks for asking we are very fortunate to have no virus here yet. but with the elderly population it is a worry... theres talk that severe cases will have to be flown to the mainland !. tourist arent allowed entry on the ferry but those with second homes here, are turning up from any and everywhere.  my family are isolating but i have plenty of work i can get on with on the croft. [just been putting up a polytunnel] we are also delivering food, veg, meals and bread etc to those that are alone or without transport [left at the door] . hows things for you and your family in Norfolk ?

Really glad to hear you have got no known cases of this dreaded virus on your island and I hope that situation will continue .

Norfolk was copping well with it being a thinly populated area , but with the nice weather last weekend we got day trippers and visitors going to the holiday camps  and the coast which was then putting more and more people at risk .So all the major coastal attractions such as Holkham , Cley , Pensthorpe and just about everywhere else including all the car parks are now closed until further notice .

Luckily enough I live very close to the marshes and my shooting grounds so I can at least go for walks and enjoy the countryside but my gun will stay in the cabinet for the foreseeable future .

One small stroke of luck was the potato contractors left about four rows of spuds in the ground last year due to the conditions were to wet when they were being lifted at the end of September , yesterday I was speaking on the phone to the tractor driver and I mentioned the spuds and what they were going to do with them , as luck would have it he was on the field the day before and ran his harrow across the field bringing most of the spuds to the surface , as I was only a few fields away I went and had a look and low and behold there were spuds down a four yard strip the length of the field , looking at them they were in better condition than the ones stored in my garage that came off the same field , so later on today I will go and get my exercise with my litter picker and a few strong bags , this will do us a bit of good and one or two of our neighbours who are isolating and cannot get out. :good:

Good luck to you , your family and your fellow islanders , STAY SAFE.      MM

Good stuff, so the spuds left in the ground did better than those harvested ! . no heavy frost near you then, I left carrots in the ground until a couple of weeks ago and they were also fine. look after your self
