Major Airports haven’t ever closed ( as a few here have bemoaned 😂), regionals has been a different matter but the one we operate too seem to have the first week in July pencilled in ( subject to change of course).

Our Flight Ops team in a vid conference the other day were saying that as soon as they have a plan in place each day, it’s already obsolete in either a positive or negative way.

Maintain flexibility is the key to dates and just make sure the FCO advice allows it, or be aware that Travel Insurance may not cover you.

PS, my ‘other’ job has had me working all throughout the lockdown in accordance with the guidelines and even today , I’m working for a Teacher. So I’m happy your still getting paid ‘part time’ errr, I mean ‘pro rats’ , or I wouldn’t be 🙂

I have flights booked with BA to Mauritius for 5 July. What’s your view on that going ahead? I think it’s pretty slim at the moment but I live in hope.

Waitrose couldn’t have been insisting, as not all were wearing it- just they had the ‘posh’ face-guards for a few

They are operating a long haul schedule of sorts, at the moment.

Unless they have specifically contacted you to say it’s not going ahead which allows you to receive a refund of claim of your insurance for cancellation- then look forward to it until such a time of notification.

Obviously I’m only kept up to date of sorts, for our own route structure.

PS, my ‘other’ job has had me working all throughout the lockdown in accordance with the guidelines and even today , I’m working for a Teacher. So I’m happy your still getting paid ‘part time’ errr, I mean ‘pro rats’ , or I wouldn’t be 🙂

 

I need several things to fall into line. Allowing flights to SA from UK, Insurance cover, the SA govt to allow hunting again. Not too hopefull but maybe things will move much quicker now the lockdown is in meltdown.

I had flights booked to the US on the 6 July with Virgin Atlantic and the outbound leg was canelled yesterday.

Good luck for which ever way you hope it goes.

I want to be going. Hotel is closed at the moment but have messaged them to find out what their plans are. Then it depends on flights and FO advice. I think it’s slim that all three will align. Not worried about having to isolate at this end as it is still early in the school holidays but for Portugal towards the end August will put contingency in place so that the children can go back to school (if the schools are operating).

You don't, but why would you go to so many at the moment,  it makes no sense, you go out get the shopping go home, it's like you want to be out mingling with the potential carriers.

That's fair enough.  I was going to the US to shoot the fitsc worlds and have a bit of a road trip either side of that.  The comp was canned long ago so I thought it would just be a road trip, but as i was planning to venture to 7 different states that are all doing different covid lockdown things and as yet no guarantee that I could actually enter the states I was happy for the airline to cancel the flight.  Saves a load of hassle.

Mingling with potential carriers- did you not read at to what my job prior to furlough was- mingled and flew with more than a few who had or had gotten over it.

Have you only been to the one shop, did you stop at a petrol station on the way or did you make that a separate journey? Maybe made a detour to bargain madness or wickes? Been to your local shop for just a newspaper and milk?

Can you categorically hand on heart say you haven’t ( which I doubt unless you have been advised to self isolate by your GP and used a delivery service only- if you e used a delivery service when you were able to go shopping then why take slots from those who can’t)

Would have replied earlier, but was still sorting out the Teachers house ( should I have used an apostrophe or would that have pluralised it?)

We've gone back to the big shop, once a week one shop, one of us going,  nip the little Tesco if we need something in between,  if its busy sack it off, certainly haven't been going lots of different supermarkets no need.

Fuel once a fortnight wearing disposable gloves, and its pay at pump, on the journey home from work.

Haven't joined the ques at any diy places, I haven't needed to, and I'm working still in the current new cases hotspot according to the figures, but I'm avoiding any groups if I can help it.

I've been the range once, it was deserted so I was in and out in  no time.

And you were mingling prior to being furloughed as part of your job, same as everyone else,  but now your at home waiting to be told you can go back to work.

Well it has been an amusing thread, personally I am very happy that we have great Teachers and Schools and that they are working out how to get back to teaching within the classroom.

My wife is a teacher and we have school aged children. She hadn’t stopped working. Again is in school tomorrow and online with the pupils everyday.  She wants schools to go back fully when track and trace etc is functional - likely July now due to incompetence - and then cancel the summer holidays and split the autumn term into three “half” terms. 

 

As an aside, most of the children she teaches are severely disadvantaged and many have had awful experiences during lockdown. Schools provide counselling, food, emotional support and healthcare. Some of the students in her school have nursed parents during their deaths due to CV-19.

Been working my ‘second job’ ever since and prior to any lockdown/furlough- think I have had nine days in total when I’ve not been working of some description.

Two boy’s. The year one is returning on June the 9th, the other is in year 3 and no date has been given for his return. 
 

Your choice to ‘sack it off’ or avoid, my choice not too- either one of us could of been at the wrong place, at the wrong time- but at the same time, how did you know to ‘sack it off’? Was it because you had to wait inline outside for them you would know that the store was running at those imposed customer limit- but what if the wasn’t the wait and you stepped inside and made up that limit? You wouldn’t know obviously, but would you then turn round and walk out....  

Returning once a week to the same Supermarket or once a week at a different ‘brand’ , what’s the difference? There isn’t one ( except to the wallet)

For me that was simple, we haven't needed medicine,  didn't join in the madness of grabbing toilet rolls or needed nappies so if I'm nipping for milk or a loaf and there are ten people waiting outside I'd leave it and go back later, same when I've done the mother in laws shopping if I turned up and there are a dozen people waiting to get in just come back in an hour.

Personally I'm not queuing for 30-40 mins when I can try again later.

When you say “teachers haven’t stopped teaching” does that include all of the PW teaching you have been giving?

I've spoken to many people over the last few months and the vast majority agree that the service we've been provided with is distinctly sub-par. Experiences seem to vary wildly from "excellent" in Penistone to "barely any communication at all" in Sale. Secondary teachers seem to be doing much more for their students than Primary.

My 6 and 8 year old kids have had very minimal input from the school, a few worksheets and a weekly e-mail. No interactive teaching, Zoom calls etc. We're both working from home, but neither of us has seen a dip in the work we're expected to do, so haven't had the hours freed up that some expect us to have.

I cannot do a Dominic Cummings and tell a half truth, yes, I have been more than once a week to the supermarket ( kids are like garbage cans) - did you not also say that you have carried out the once weekly supermarket shop and then ‘topped up’- but to me it’s each to their own.

So kind of you to provide a Teaching service to me. Must say, didn’t realise their were certain standards to be kept on PW- but if you wish to ‘proof read’ all other posts, then  sure that will keep you busy whilst at home!!!!!!!
