I watched the start of channel 4 news tonight,  they were showing different places around Europe and giving the various rates, its jumping up again big time, but people want to go on holiday?

So go in this country,  our tourism industry is on its knees, it might rain so what, do some sight seeing and have a different type of holiday.

Well this will probably get me stoned to death , but after having a quick look at it ,  it doesn't seem a bad idea at all .

I haven't looked but I love your honest answer.

In Guensey - if you don't follow the quarantine rules, the penalties are tough https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8569557/Two-English-workers-fined-9-000-breaching-Guernseys-strict-quarantine-going-pub.html

This circles back to my point earlier, if we quietly accept bad law without challenge then we invite other problems.

Law that is unenforceable or made with no intention to enforce is bad law..

The modern police are only likely to enforce a law if it can easily be done remotely from a screen in a comfortable office, or possibly from a high end luxury BMW.

Its virtually impossible to book a holiday let in the uk at the moment, I've tried. I agree that its foolish to fly anywhere without good reason at the moment though... unfortunately there are plenty of fools.

Friends of mine go abroad every year, always have but this year it's a caravan in Cornwall,  their kids have never had a beach holiday in this country.

What the hell is this desperate for a holiday carp what the people who make this statement need is a real reason for a holiday not bleating that they unable to go on an aircraft try this country for a change

I have. It’s **** for the type of holiday I want. Each to their own.

An Spain is Not??  Overpriced and very poor quality in the main. Used to be good before they quadrupled the prices

Never been. There are far more holiday destinations than Spain. Tell me where in the U.K. you are guaranteed nice enough weather to sit on a deserted beach reading a book, swimming and scuba diving, the children water skiing and eating lunch and dinner in fantastic restaurants?

I've got all that plus shooting and fishing on my doorstep for free

Well, I've travelled the world. And earlier this week I was fishing a beat on the Usk that has a campsite right on the river, down from the big house. And I can categorically say that you'd struggle to find a more beautiful place on the planet to spend a week or so. You can swim in a river flowing with drinkable water; you have red kites, kingfishers,  otters, ...and the stars overhead at night. A nice small town a couple of miles down the road, and a good golf course or two within 15 minutes drive. And world class trout fishing literally at your feet.

What more could any sensible person ask for? 🙂

I used (20 years ago) to get asked as a guest on a shoot a few miles south of Usk.  It is a lovely part of the world.

This was where I was fishing. A cracking piece of water, if a bit low and 'technical' just now. I didn't know there was a campsite there before I drove up for the day. But it's beautiful and I'd definitely consider using it as a base for a holiday if I had the family with me. There's loads to do in the area.

It's a nice area.  I used to visit a village near Crickhowell regularly (my godfather lived there) - and shot my first grouse on the moors just north of Abergavenny.  It is the nearest grouse moor to London!

But you need a wetsuit/dry suit most of the time and a bloody big umbrella.

Not so where I am here as have all that plus shooting /fishing on the doorstep ( even a spot of boar ( sanglier) in the garden )🙂
