AVB
This is an interesting website from the ONS showing the number of Covid deaths per Super Output Area broken down by month. https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/causesofdeath/articles/deathsinvolvingcovid19interactivemap/2020-06-12 Interestingly my area has had 20 deaths in total, 13 in April, 7 in May and none since. The green circle somewhat reduces the human aspect. This is my cousin the week she was born being held by my grandad. 9 minutes ago, WalkedUp said: Going to text my mother and check when my cousin died. If you look at other areas (you can zoom the map out) some areas have multiple dots of different sizes.

Each “locale” in my area has one dot, per town or village generally on the district centre. Mine is in the middle of a field but my super area is the combination of three small separate villages. I agree with you. What this does demonstrate is the randomness of this. Each area is of similar population size and yet areas of similar population density in adjacent physical location can have very different number of deaths. WalkedUp
Interestingly in our borough it is the more affluent and least dense areas with the highest death rates. The average age of my nearest 20 neighbours must be well over 70. Covid generally, but not always, kills older people. Retsdon
Interesting map. Outside of some urban areas and the odd hotspot, in most of the country you'd have to think there'd be more heart attacks that Covid deaths.
WalkedUp
There may well be more heart attacks, but they are a pretty much constant. COVID is causing excess deaths. Mot would however be good to look at man-years for the deaths. “Cost to the economy per year of average life expectancy” put against various diseases and illnesses. Death rates are 13% higher on average this year.
WalkedUp
In 2001 ischaemic heart disease was the for cause of death in 20% UK deaths, 7% higher than COVID. However it has now fallen drastically and the biggest cause of death is dementia and Althziemer’s at 15%. Covid has come from 0% to probably first placed cause of death in UK in 9 months. Pretty impressive performance by the young debutant. Edited January 2, 2021 by WalkedUp
bluesj
Not sure how they have come up with the areas but the town i live in is split in to 4 but the bit I live in covers about 60 square miles and covers 16 or more other villages, the areas around cover 2 and 4 square miles

So towns will have smaller areas and rural areas larger.

Centrepin
An interesting point: In May, my mum in law died, altzimers and old age, died at home but was tested for covid. Negative. My neighbour across the road died in October, previously had many heart attacks, his wife was tested for covid, was positive but had/has no symptoms. He was negative. In December my father died, at home, he had bowel cancer and had just been released from hospital to die at home. Was tested for covid in hospital. I do not have the result. These three deaths have all been reported as being covid related and are in the stats for covid in this area. These are the only three that I can definitely comment on but I do wonder how many more are reported as covid related but in fact are absolutely nothing to do with it. Now that is the question, sadly it will never be answered. I fear many deaths have been attributed to covid, when covid had nothing to do with the deaths. Sorry for your losses. figgy
In my area one is a care home in the village high street. The other if correct is just one house Not sure how this would be that significant, we know care homes are hotspots.
Raja Clavata
9 in my area. Looking at the other areas locally I can see that those with care homes appear to have a higher number but the location of the green blobs appears somewhat arbitrary. Sorry to hear of the personal losses here. What are the credible theories on why the number of COVID deaths are being reported? I can think of two: NHS trusts using the figures to maintain / increase their funding Government using the figures to justify the lockdown actions etc.

Mungler
Quack on the radio today saying modern drugs of the last 30 years have stretched life expectancy (albeit medically / artificially) and this is the elastic band snapping back. Looking at the post code checker for my area, there’s been 19 deaths across the whole period and I couldn’t tell you how many thousand chimney pots are in the post code area. I would guess more deaths through heart attack / strokes.
