I know that some people are getting offered them if the original patient doesn't turn up (11 no shows at one place today) as the vaccines have a 6 hour 'shelf life' once mixed so rather than waste them if someone is able to be bumped up the queue then it's done

Quite. I’m taking the OH’s mother for hers on Thursday, and if I’m offered it whilst there I won’t be turning it down.

If it is done honestly, I have no problem with anyone getting a vaccine, which would otherwise be binned. However, I would be more than concerned if vaccine appointments were manipulated to ensure there were always "spare" vaccines at the end of the day.

One of the problems they have been having in Cornwall apparently is the bus service, or rather the lack of it, A lot of older people in the villages rely on the bus. So there is little point trying to give out appointments every ten minutes through out the day when there is only a bus every hour, or two hours. Always assuming you can get a bus directly there which is far from certain.

And there is the distance, my MIL is 92, her vaccination centre was 40 miles away. Fortunately she was taken by family but not everybody has that choice

So they have been getting a lot of no shows and cancellations. It calls into question the wisdom of doing the oldest first in poor rural areas

you'd think that in cases like your mother in law , that it would be much easier to have mobile vaccinators (is that a real word) , travelling around to the old people that cant easily get to a vaccination Centre , then again , the logistics of that would probably be mind blowing when you consider the size of the operation.

The local surgery here - one of the Doctors plus nurse.clerk has visited 'housebound' patients.  We have no bus service and nearby areas only very infrequent service (only twice daily in some cases).

obviously there are some cancellations but not when the employer is telling staff to book jabs in droves how can they get a jab when they are not mixing with the public while those twice their age with health issues can’t it’s system abuse plain and simple

We had an invitation (early January) from the local surgery for people in "community healthcare professional role" defined as "This includes, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists, private practitioners etc." to book a priority appointment.

I have no idea if they did any checking, but suspect (from what I have heard anecdotally) that they had a lot of replies who have had their jabs now.

And then throw in the vaccines that need to be stored at ridiculously low temperatures.

You have several hours from thawing - and they come in 'batches' of 5, so with a little planning that should be achievable - because basically you have several hours to use each lot of 5 when activated.  I did post somewhere the detailed handling procedures.

with two family jumping the que it would be easy to keep quite but wrong is wrong both are not mixing with the public just employed at the “right” level my daughter was so against booking had to talk her into it and that was only for the grand child’s sake

Ive not heard the pork one, but they do feel like theres something not quite right with the vaccine.

Here is an example why: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9239805/Iranian-cleric-says-Covid-19-vaccine-turns-people-gay.html

According to one religious leader the vaccine "turns you gay".  The sad thing is people believe these religious leaders.

The former 'definitely happened' its in the book !

The latter has always been promised , by most priests, as long as you do as youre told :|

But I digress, the only reason this has made 'news' is due to this numpties outlandish claims, its light relief in a world of woe .

Well I got my vaccine today. I must say It has left me extremely angry and I am think ing about making a formal complaint.

I was reading in the local Islamic press that the vaccine was stuffed full of pig products and alcohol. I was looking  forward to the feeling of drinking 4 pints of bitter and eating 2 pork pies. Not a thing , total let down !!!
