Smokersmith
Anyone else seen this? Main picture is a man in shades, shooting what looks like an AK47 with a bayonet on it! Is that the image we really think represents us best!! Photo added as I know many on here don’t get the magazine.
bruno22rf
You couldn't make it up could you? BASC have lost their touch on reality.
Smokersmith
I guess the show organisers are responsible for the advert. Might have been worth the editors advising an alternative picture though.

Going slightly off course from your thread , I did like the front cover photo of the Duke of Edinburgh in a gun punt on the Wash in 1953 the same year we had the East coast floods disaster , if I worked it out right he would have been 21 at the time the photo was taken
Conor O'Gorman
Thank you for the above feedback on BASC's May/June 2021 members' magazine 'Shooting and Conservation'. With regard to the OP, country shows and game fairs are often very diverse in what they offer; they appeal to a wide audience and often feature militaria and historic firearms. In this instance, the gentleman pictured with the rifle is SAS Veteran Pete Winner. The accompanying caption (which is not visible on the photograph posted) advertises a talk by Pete Winner on both days of the show which takes place on 25 & 26 September 2021. London Best
My RFD friend tells me that his best selling .22 rifle is not a CZ or Tikka as you might imagine, but a semi auto made to look like an AK47. WHY?

WHY? I'm of the same opinion, not much for the whole "tacticool" type weaponry. To me that would be a dodgy type of thing to go bunny bashing with, imagine the police response if someone phoned you in for having an ak47 in a field while wearing camouflage clothing..... providing the Americans don't get you first with a drone strike 🤣
stuartyboy
Seems like a poor choice of picture. Regardless of personal views on the look of certain guns, to have a bayonet fitted in the picture is a bit stupid. How can anyone counter the negative image of firearms ownership commonly portrayed by the media, and argue for the benefits shooting and gun ownership can bring when a Shooting Show advert has a picture of an AK lookalike with attached bayonet. Makes you wonder who the target audience is? I'm guessing the picture won't appeal to the vast majority of shooters.
Fellside
Too many Rambo fantasists out there. Do they throw a commando role on the ground before putting 20 rounds in to the bunny??!!
udderlyoffroad
Ohh lighten up you lot. It was designed to do exactly what it's done, i.e. got your attention and talking about it. If it was an ad in the local rag, that would be different. But in the BASC magazine? Whoever thinks that editors are going to push back hard on paying advertisers going 'errr, are you sure?' is being a little naiive I feel. 1 hour ago, Rob85 said: To me that would be a dodgy type of thing to go bunny bashing with, imagine the police response if someone phoned you in for having an ak47 in a field while wearing camouflage clothing As opposed to the police response when you're dressed in your finest tweed with a Purdey? They're obliged to respond in either case, and the kind of person calling the police on you won't care what your gun looks like. If you get invited to examine the grass up close by an ARV welcome committee, you're already having a bad day. And you're still carrying out a lawful activity, regardless of whether the particular firearm scores too many points on the 'tacticool' scale for some on here. 2 hours ago, London Best said: My RFD friend tells me that his best selling .22 rifle is not a CZ or Tikka as you might imagine, but a semi auto made to look like an AK47. WHY? Why not? The fun police are doing their best to make Britain a dour place to be. There's a good chance his best selling shotgun is a Hatsan Escort, too. Cheap, fun, works, kills clays and quarry when pointed in the right place. Does look a bit 'action man' though
Ultrastu
Maybe the show is trying to attract another set of shooters other than the purdy buyers who will already be going to the show . I'm not sure that many toff game shooters are going to be put off by that picture . But a picture of a load of land-rover drivers infront of a castle is more likely to aillentate the fun shooters of bb.guns

oscarsdad
It looks like something someone who enjoys protecting their virginity with their airsoft plastic toy guns would use…not an appropriate image for a shooting show (assuming it’s a country sports type show and not a “gun fair”

Maybe you'd prefer the more usual 'posh totty' dressed in several grand worth of clothes+frighteningly expensive boots and wielding a SxS that obviously hasn't fired a shot in years...I know I would 😁 Me, I thought that was a picture of the new Yorkshire Border Patrol force: "Appen thy got thine papers to get into god's own country lad?" Fellside
I don’t think the tacky horrible image above - or the other extreme re land rovers and castle - would appeal to Mr & Mrs average. However there’s no getting away from the fact that it does look awful and possibly threatening to any non shooting folk. Even if meant as a fun promo, most won’t get the joke. A bit concerning during a time when we have to be very savvy about our projected image. Mistakes happen and this is one. 3 minutes ago, Scully said: Is there? How many? Centrepin
The picture is of an obvious Walt, note the SAS badge on the butt and desert camo clothing. A picture posed to impress his mummy or young girlfriend and not a serious picture. Why they would use it to advertise I've no idea, I would use it to make fun of the person in it. Also, I don’t think a casual glance by Jo public would pick up on those details.

As for 'used separately' - I've just gone on their website and clicked through several pages. Nowhere did I see that image. 14 minutes ago, Fellside said: Ask yourself how you would view it if not involved in shooting...... Bad man with a gun. The fact that the gun is a 'military gun' and not a 'toffs gun' would likely not concern me 2 minutes ago, Centrepin said: The picture is of an obvious Walt, note the SAS badge on the butt and desert camo clothing. Here's the ad in full, not the OP's redacted version. My highlight: So your 'Walt' is a full blown "I was on that balcony" Walt.
