can we afford to house these migrants with rising costs whilst our own suffer energy and cost of living rises job losses etc ?

Migrants or Migrants and refugees?

So, at UNHCR we say 'refugees and migrants' when referring to movements of people by sea or in other circumstances where we think both groups may be present – boat movements in Southeast Asia are another example. We say 'refugees' when we mean people fleeing war or persecution across an international border. And we say 'migrants' when we mean people moving for reasons not included in the legal definition of a refugee. We hope that others will give thought to doing the same. Choices about words do matter.

This is a UNHCR viewpoint written by Adrian Edwards from UNHCR's Geneva office.

Having  a few days break in the land of rubber dinghy landings. The Dungeness lifeboat was already out collecting. First stop on landing, breakfast for all at the local cafe then on to accommodation according to a local lad?

Cost of Shannon class boat 2.2 Mill. Launch trailer 1.2 Mill.

I guess both migrants and refugees could both turn out to be illegal.

Not according to the more err, Liberal groups, or the UNCHR, entering the country illegally, is not, according to them, illegal, IF you are fleeing war and persecution, and/or claiming asylum.

This is what we're up against, a refusal to accept the reality of economic migration.

I think thats right. If you are fleeing war and seeking asylum you have to get here however you can in the absence of any organised routes. If however you are seeking asylum on the basis this is the land of honey and you are simply an economic migrant that has entered the country on an unauthorised route then you are an illegal migrant.

Youre missing the point.
Once you claim asylum, then whatever means you got into the country are immaterial, whatever reason you have used to get to your 'target' country are immaterial, as per the stated UN guidelines, you are now , until proven otherwise, an asylum seeking refugee.
The fact that you have illegally (been allowed to) transited multiple countries before you got to your preferred country, is swept under the rug.
Then, backed by expensive HR lawyers , there is the process of the country proving you are genuine or not, whereas the migrant only need claim any number of rock solid, non provable alibis, like homosexuality, or political affiliations , that place you life or liberty in danger.
The system will do its utmost to help you get in , rather than keep you out.
This is why so few claims are rejected, but even that does not stop the appeals process dragging on that long, its then considered inhumane to send you back !
Id love to know the percentage of who gets sent back, but I do know how many got sent to Rwanda.. 0 %

Exactly !
But try and squeeze the number out of the ONS and work out a percentage.
Theyre very good at telling you how many asylum applications are turned down, it varies at around 50 % , but thats not even half the story.
The multi layered appeals process gets more through, then even more are given 'right to remain' as in , you can stop here while we get more information.
More housing , more strain on public funds , more crime, after that some just disappear into the ether of the black economy, father some fake kids after a fake marriage, get a cat , then they have inalienable rights to stay.
The ones that play by the ruies often find the case against them cannot be proven , so they are granted citizenship.

In very rare cases , they are told they must leave, but it rarely happens.
Maybe 1 % maybe less, try and find the figures, if anyone knows them , they are not published.

Most are just opportunists. If you lived in a rubbish country and you could see better prospects elsewhere wouldn't you go for it?

I dont know , we might find out what a rubbish country is like soon, then we can try rocking up in Canada or Oz, and see if we can claim asylum there,
Free board and lodgings , with no worries about the gas bill, sounds attractive.

That's why so many are young men. Whether they find what they are looking for? I'm not so sure

Youll find most of these shattered refugees fleeing from from war and destruction in the city centre on Friday and Saturday nights, oggling and pawing scantily clad young girls.
While spending the day finding things to steal occupy themselves with, there must be about a million of them in London alone.
Burka or Bikini , if you were a young man, what would you prefer ?

There has been rather more French military aerial activity between Dunkirk and Berck over the past few days and the UK drone from Lydd has been up a couple of times.

How that translates into numbers prevented from crossing, I know not.

how much do you think it is costing the taxpayer / year for one soul ?

God only knows, but I bet its more than the average brit earns in a year when everythings included.

Sickening when you think medicine the NHS can't afford, or ex military living on the street.
