Shadowchaser
I'm going to be getting someone to plaster a wall in the room in which my Shotgun Cabinet is located. It's actually a bedroom but most stuff has been taken out. My gun cabinet is on the opposite wall to the one being plastered. I'm not moving it but was wondering if I should cover it over with a sheet or something to try and disguise it. I'm sure others must've had work done in rooms where your cabinet is. What did you do? ditchman
if you are that worried....before the tradesman turns up take the guns out and leave the door open....if the bloke mentions it...just say it was there when you bought the house............ Stephen-H
When I moved Into my house/renovation project I fitted my gun cabinet ( no guns were currently stored at this point ) & had the carpet fitters in they never mentioned it & just worked around it 1 minute ago, ditchman said: if you are that worried....before the tradesman turns up take the guns out and leave the door open....if the bloke mentions it...just say it was there when you bought the house............ Scully
You could cover everything in sheets anyhow, if theres plastering going on; sheeting just one object in the room may look odd. I’ll bet he doesn’t even give it a glance.

Shadowchaser
Cheers guys. My OP may have made me sound a bit paranoid. I was coming at it from more of a general, what would the police want you to do kind of question. I know you're supposed the have the cabinet out of sight of casual visitors, but this isn't a casual visit. I'll just leave it as is and not mention it. DITCHMAN got there before I did. This! In fact asks him if he knows anyone that wants to buy it even though there's no keys and then quote a ridiculous price (say the exact price as a new one) such as he won't. London Best
With most shooting men I know no-one needs to see a cabinet to know they are shooters. Think paintings, photographs, ornaments, clothes, hats, dogs, trophies (stuffed and silver), vehicles, etc, etc.

Westley
Used as a household safe ? You may want to move your guns out anyway as I recall when I had walls re plastered, there was a high moisture content in the room as the plaster dried out. I put my guns with a friend for er...72 hours to allow the room to dry out without causing problems to my guns.

Robden
Can't see the problem TBH, unless he/she tries to open it in front of you. Anyone that knows you shoot, or anyone seeing you walk to or from you house with a gun, will know that there is a gun safe somewhere inside. Savhmr
If concerned it's easy enough to make an MDF cabinet to go over the main cabinet with a removable and lockable door. Thinking of doing this myself to tidy the room up a bit. Make it look like a small talboy or locking book case! I had one but gave it away 30 odd years ago when I moved the cabinets to the loft.

THEINVISIBLESCARECROW
I wouldn't bother, at most get a cheap or free wardrobe & knock the back out of it. I would take the gunsbout & let the room dry though, definately do that !
