Quality 20 bore

I know this probably isn’t the answer you’re looking for, but….. how about visiting a well stocked gun room and put a few different 20s to your shoulder? If it’s on a clay ground and they have some demo guns all the better. One ore two guns are likely to ‘feel right’ and fit. At least you’ll end up with a hitter - rather than a fancy gun which you may not get on with.

Sadly we lack such a thing locally so thought would get some suggestions before making a long trip

I think all the guns above are really sensible solid suggestions - including the Miroku MK60. If you’re going on a buying trip, try visiting somewhere which stocks the guns above. You might need to take in a couple of RFDs. Nice problem to have. Good luck!

If you are considering the Miroku MK 60 the grade 3 would be a good option ,nicer wood and engraving than the grade 1 and avoids potential problems with the fancier grade 5 wood. I sold a Miroku grade 3 20 bore a few years back and regretted it later. Now have a grade 5 12 bore been lucky so far with no cracks in the wood.

I think they are both good value for money especially second hand

Miroku MK60 Grade 5 30ins. You should be able to find one for about £2.5. Buy an original, unaltered gun with the original butt plate and quarter and three quarter chokes. Perfect gun, looks good and will shoot for ever.

Very happy with my Grade 1 but  most certainly not as standard. Had to be altered. Multi-choked by Nigel Teague, a cast put in the stock and a kickeezee butt pad fitted. ( the hard plastic standard butt plate on a thin stock can be a sore shoulder after 100 cartridges). But, been very happy with it for years.

Yes I had one of those grade 3s in a 12 bore - beautiful gun. Like you I regretted selling it. You live and learn. The 20 bores have a higher comb than the 12 bores. The 20 is 36mm / 56mm. Don’t know if that would suit the OP or not….? We are all different shapes and sizes.

Due to an elbow injury am looking for a quality 20 bore for clays, the odd game day and a bit of pigeon bashing.

Any recommendations, other than Chapuis which have looked at and dont like, or bog standard Beretta/Brownings.

Budget about £4k.

As Islandgun said there are some cracking B Rizzinis to be had, but don’t discount the 20 bore MacNab Highlanders (made by B.Rizzini). For your budget you could have a S/H Highlander Teague choked if you were after a multi-choked gun.

Also, as Dave at Kenton advocates, a Caesar Guerini Maxum would also fit the bill within your budget.

Good luck with your quest.

Looked at 2 pals Lincolns and both had bad overdraft and hard work to use.

I have had Lincolns in 16 bore and 20 bore and rate them highly and have just obtained another 16 Lincoln Jubilee as I regretted selling my 16 bore Jubilee Prestige.

Could you please explain your comment that ‘both had bad overdraft and hard work to use’ ? Not quite sure what that means or possibly predictive text for something else. I’m genuinely curious to know what problems you encountered.

Overdraft mean the barrels dont drop fully when opened and you have to push them the last little bit which makes reloading a pain.

Many thanks for clarifying that. I`ve never heard that relating to guns only money !

What do you mean overdraft never heard that before in my sixty years of shooting

Me neither, that’s why I asked the question. Even googled it and still doesn’t register anywhere. It just doesn’t seem the right wording. Perhaps Gunman or Enfieldspares has heard of it.
