Now the Tory controlled BBC have been forced to suspend Lineker as a contractor!!! Where will this nonsense end? We should not stand in silent witness. I think much of this started long ago with cancel culture, those who have been calling the loudest for years for people saying things they don't like to be silenced, are now the most outraged now the boot is on the other foot. I'd like to see GL able to freely express his views, but there can't be one rule for one and another for the rest of. My post re the video that 12 gauge82 replied to had nothing to do with Lineker , It was about the Civil service not doing the job they are paid to do

I agree but in this case it's the BBC bowing to govt pressure with Richard Sharp at the top doing their bidding. If the BBC bows to government the rest is history. If the BBC bows to government the rest is history. The government gives a charter to the BBC to produce television, at a cost to the public who use it, threaten with prosecution those who don't, and to remain politically impartial. As I've said, they lean heavily to the left, as does state owned C4, so they tend to ignore the charter in many respects, and get away with it, until Lineker decided to call the government nazis. After initially doing what any left leaning, tory bashing, state funded junket would do, and supporting the attention grabbing idiot, the exposure showed the beeb for what they are, and the backlash has been epic. Swiftly back tracking, linekers suspended faster than he can eat a bag of crisps, and unless he unwokes himself in public, which is impossible for a man with an ego Gary's size, he's staying gone. The funny thing is, no one's going to miss him either.

The funny thing is, no one's going to miss him either. I certainly won't miss him. Unfortunately the BBC is now under the thumb of this travesty of a government who have installed a puppet at it's head. We can no doubt expect to see a gradual decline in the intelligence led reporting. Meanwhile the public stands pretty much silent as the Tories try to twist the truth to support their warped ideology. Having whipped the public into a frenzy of hostility towards Europe, anything coming from the other side of the channel, be it a small boat or a bottle of wine, is viewed with suspicion. To maintain that momentum the govt must now build the media message to divert criticism to anyone else but themselves. The Tory proposals for dealing with small boats are fundamentally flawed at many levels. Lets hope that the majority of the public see it for what it is before we all suffer at the hands of this right wing authoritarian regime.

welsh1
I think it's time to end this topic now, it seems to have gone well away from boat crossings and veered into the BBC and liniker and we already have one topic on that subject running.
