So JLR are dropping the Land Rover brand and intend to market different models by their own name - Defender, Discovery etc.

Can't see this being a positive move somehow. Land Rover must be one of the strongest brands in the world.

Aye, one of the strongest brands making carp vehicles.

I think LR stopped being LR when the Disco 2 finished. They tried to hang in with Defenders but even they got ridiculous.  Range Rover was certainly finished when that evoque thing came out.

A good Series, early defender early range rover or Disco 1 and they were proper 4x4s.

Land Rover unfortunately are just a luxury car maker who's vehicles happen to have 4 wheel drive. Much the same as Mercedes or Volvo.

I've been in and out of Land Rovers for over 50 years, military and civilian but doubt I'll ever own another. I've owned several, even built from scratch my own series. Loved and hated them, but unfortunately they've been done as a brand for years.

Not entirely sure how they're going to appeal to, the uh Middle Eastern market, by going all-electric.  But I'm sure the marketing wonks know what they're doing. Ahem.

I can actually see the argument for dropping "Land Rover" for consistency across their other branding, as much as their aging former drivers disagree.  It's not as if it's a brand that inspires loyalty for its build quality.  "Kaputt ab Werk" as the Germans would say.

They had to finish with the classic Defender because successive owners had invested roughly £0 in modernising it, unlike Mercedes with the G-Wagon.  Its production methods were so dated and labour-intensive, it was costing them more to build than a top-of-the-line Range Rover.

I think JLR's experienced marketing specialists must be weeping into their porridge at what is obviously a political gesture almost certainly emanating from the board.

Once they've lost the North American and Mid East markets - which they will - they'll be on their way out of business.

Some years ago I was in and out of Lode Lane with my lorries on a regular basis. 100s of brand new chassis stood on end outside one warehouse gathering rust before being used. Parts in crates all stored outside. I actually asked if they were faulty or rejects and was told to "look another way, say nothing and absolutely no pictures. At the time I was running a Disco 2, a 59 Series 2 and using a Disco 1 just off road. Very upsetting thinking rusty chassis going into brand new vehicles.

Yep the fl2 I have the battery is getting zapped when it's sat off on my drive. Yesterday did some tests and it was drawing nearly 3amps when sat unlocked, ignition off with the Bonnet up .. AGM 800 battery tested 75% at around 690 after the car running. Only 3 year old battery too.

So, electric charge up points will be popping up on the battlefield?

It'll be the only charge the PC Brigade will allow.

They made a start by making soldiers wear his vis jackets over camouflage clothing so they could be seen.
