I just can’t understand how Khan gets away with it, he charges you to drive into London under the pretext of wanting to clean up the air quality, then puts on a highly polluting firework display and guess what, he charges you again to watch it..

If not who paid?

London ratepayers did.  They voted him in.

Personally, I think fireworks (in a well done big display) can be spectacular - but no way would I pay to go and watch (I assume the highlights were on TV?).

I have no time for people doing back garden fireworks, which are expensive, rather dull compared to 'proper professional' displays and a curse to everyone and their pets who live nearby.

Could possibly be an indication of the levels of intelligence whereby many seem to keep voting people like him into another level of authority over their way of living only overseen by another level of authority overseen by Kiers lot? Go figure ?

The whole thing was on TV, so much easier than going along for a couple of minutes.   :cool1:

The Beeb reporting of it gave great prominence to "The Mayor of London Presents" done, I assume with drones.

It almost made me switch it off.

Just as I thought, another socialist  "vanity project" wasting public money.

Six of my friends in the village went up to London, by train on Saturday with the express intention of watching the firework display. They'd booked a hotel for two or three nights, not sure which, and I'm sure it wasn't a cheap one. They'll have hit the town enjoying themselves eating and drinking and the three wives hammering the credit cards on a shopping spree.

I haven't seen them yet to hear the stories of their trip but they'll have spent quite a few bob between them.

I don't doubt that very many out of towners and tourists were doing something similar, putting money into the London economy which perhaps they wouldn't have done without the draw of the NYE firework display.

You have to include the new year's day parade with all the American marching band and their families coming to London

London is rammed with tourists for new year and you have to buy tickets for the fire works they are not free. The cost of the fire works will be recouped many times over

No, your on the money, Titanium Fireworks are really rather good.

From there website;

Titanium Fireworks consider our impact on the environment in all of our operations and the displays that we deliver. We always aim to have as little of an impact and footprint as possible, and where we do have an impact we fully offset it in UK based regeneration and offsetting projects. We feel it important and right to invest in UK organisations and schemes to help support the environment we and our audiences live and work.

We have a full environmental policy document that is available to all our clients that details how we have worked (and continue to improve) in areas of fully recycling our waste, using sustainable and ethical supply chains, eliminating the use of single use plastic in our chain of operations, and training all staff in environmental awareness. We use a bespoke piece of software to precisely calculate the environmental output of our shows and can supply this to clients along with our eco credentials and offsetting schemes.
