marsh man
Will the removal of the heating allowance affect the £10 the gov used to give to the o a ps ? , if that had gone up at the rate of inflation since it was first introduced then that would go some way towards what they have took back , like the Tesco slogan , Every little help
shaun4860
My theories about what will change before next election. Winter fuel allowance gone ✔️ Free prescriptions at pension age. Same with the bus passes , a £1 a week is nothing if you use them more than say once a week , but you ask them to pay £50 a year and you can bet that some of the bus companies would close down . The £10 have been going for that long that the tenner wont buy a cheap bottle of scotch to drown your sorrows To save money our local council is closing the rubbish tips on a Wednesday and you have to book up a time slot on the other days , I just break down big items and stick them in the rubbish bin , all sorted MM
TIGHTCHOKE
Taken from Times Radio interview with Chancellor Rachel Reeves via AOL News; "The UK could have faced a run on the pound and an economic crash if Rachel Reeves had not axed winter fuel payments for millions of pensioners to fill a black hole in the public finances, Commons Leader Lucy Powell said. Ms Reeves and Sir Keir Starmer have faced criticism from opponents, campaigners and some of their own MPs over the decision to means-test the payments worth up to £300. But Ms Powell said there was “no alternative” and the decision was needed to avoid an economic catastrophe. “This is one of those very difficult decisions we had to take,” she told Times Radio." Just shows how completely incompetent they are. Giving inflationary rises to appease the big unions who fund the Labour Party is far, far more likely to worry the international money markets than retaining an existing (actually quite small) benefit to pensioners. Increasing tax on investments (i.e. CGT) isn't likely to attract the investment needed from the international market investors either for the growth they are looking to achieve. If OAP's paid £2 per prescription and 50p per bus journey that might help? BUT the system is so bloated that it probably wouldn't be economic to collect? They need to sort it in a common sense way very quickly? Sort our idle Costa/Starbucks coffee club members for starters, many having a zombie and 3 afoot. Sort the rubber boats too. Can't be that difficult surely? Having a half the other day someone suggested that dear old Blighty needed changing to Blighted?
Robden
How short-sighted are Labour? Probably already lost the next election. "Lest we forget." Pensioners won't forget this betrayal, the next time their vote is needed.

You are right, but I doubt many pensioners voted for Labour last time. Most pensioners - who will have see previous Labour gov'ts knew something like this was likely. Labour are about taking peoples personal money and allowing the state to spend it as the governing party sees fit. Naturally they take first (and probably most in relative terms) from those who are not their core supporters and so can't really 'fight back'. It's despicable, but that's politics for you.
