marsh man Posted Wednesday at 21:04 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 21:04 (edited) After a reasonably long wait I finally got a date to go in into Norfolk / Norwich Hospital to have the above treatment , it don't over bother me but I was wondering what I can expect and if you had any after effects , two days later I should have had a dentist appointment as I have got to have three loose teeth out so to be on the safe side I changed the date at the dentist to a week later . THANKS MM Edited Wednesday at 21:21 by marsh man

sitsinhedges Posted Thursday at 08:33 Report Share Posted Thursday at 08:33 I had it done a few years ago when they thought I had a blockage in one of my arteries. There's not much to it to be fair. You lay on a gurney with your arm out and they make a tiny incision in your wrist and feed a wire up into your heart. They then inject dye to see if any of your arteries are blocked which they view thru a tv screen directly above you. If needed they fit stents. In my case I was ok. After this they put a contraption on the tiny wrist wound that applies pressure for a few hours while it heals. Then you go back to the ward for tea and toast. It's really not that bad and quite painless from my recollection. It amazed me how they seemed to do the procedure without losing a drop of blood from.the wound site. vmaxphil Posted Thursday at 08:42 Report Share Posted Thursday at 08:42 I had a stent 12 years ago, they went in by my groin awake all the time, only discomfort was when they inflated the stent, had 3 days in hospital with a bracket across my hips to stop any bleeding from the incision. Have to say that when I left, I felt "turbo charged" back to work 2 weeks later. I never had any problems since 👍

THANKS MM Hi John, I had this procedure done 18months ago, and had a small incision in the wrist. As sitsinhedges gives an excellent account of the procedure, and it’s painless and a fascinating procedure you can watch on the monitor, if your nosey like me. After the procedure you have to wait a while in hospital for the incision to heal and then your allowed out. Obviously you don’t do any heavy lifting with that hand for a day or two, and you just go about your daily life as normal. Nothing to it John and nothing to worry about 👍 Edited Thursday at 09:03 by Shambam1962
Mr. Merkel Posted Thursday at 09:02 Report Share Posted Thursday at 09:02 Also similar to above had mine years ago now I am sure the procedure has changed a little since, mine was done through my left arm no stint fitted just an examination of my heart following a suspected heart attack, remained at the hospital for a few hours afterwards then all back to normal. Wish you all the best for yours.

moondoggy Posted Thursday at 22:37 Report Share Posted Thursday at 22:37 The weird bit is when they inject the dye, you are convinced you have wet yourself. They warn you to expect the feeling, but you really feel like you have. When I had an angiogram, they went in through the groin and put the clamp on for several hours afterwards. However, when I had the angioplasty several weeks later, they again went in through the groin, but afterwards they fitted a collagen bung into the cut which was much more convenient than the clamp, but when they put it in, it felt like you had had a good kick in the gonads. Another thing was the bruising that came out afterwards, especially after the angioplasty. I have never seem bruising like it, from the groin right down to my knee was completely black. Other than that, nothing much to it. Mine was done twenty years ago, so may be somewhat different now. I’ve read that they do now prefer to go in through the arm. Loki Posted Friday at 09:20 Report Share Posted Friday at 09:20 (edited) Hi Had several (stents, total 76mm on same heart artery, first failed after 3mths, 2 more added)............ 🙁, via me wrist, and awake during 'procedure'. Interesting to say the least - watching and feeling 'tugging' inside thee on a screen! I did state that I was 'not guilty' and there was some mistake, as gurney looked like I was about to be put down.........to ease me own mind! Bruising on wrist nae so bad. CharlieT Posted Saturday at 12:30 Report Share Posted Saturday at 12:30 Just be aware that if they fit stents you will be put on Clopidogrel, a blood thinner, for 6 months and you will need to take advice from your cardiologist or dentist regarding tooth extraction whilst on this medication. Yes indeed, Clopidogrel is great but has to be considered, three days for a tooth extraction and over a week for anything more sinister. They loaded me with clopidogrel for the procedure because I can't tolerate aspirin. It's to stop any clots forming.p

I have already had a very similar procedure where they injected dye into my side so what is the difference with my next one ? apart from the bed rest afterwards it seem very much the same . bruno22rf Posted Saturday at 17:43 Report Share Posted Saturday at 17:43 3 times for me over the last 4 years, totally painless once the catheter is in your wrist (2 out of 10 pain level), you can usually watch the screen above you and see the inside of your arteries, sometimes you get a warm feeling if contrast is injected but on the whole I've got £10 says that afterwards you will wonder why you were worried (if you are), all in a very interesting procedure to undergo. If you pester your cardiologist you can often come off clopidogrel after only 3 months. enfieldspares Posted Saturday at 19:50 Report Share Posted Saturday at 19:50 I had one and it showed that some arteries or veins had accumulations of plaque. They inject you and then put you in a scanner. You can actually feel, or I did, some "heat" inside you as the dye passes around. But the temporary inconvenience of it is worth the problems that it may then disclose that can be treated early. So my advice is very much "go for it".
