TIGHTCHOKE Posted Thursday at 09:19 Report Share Posted Thursday at 09:19 "The Act places new safety duties on social media firms, search engines, messaging, gaming and dating apps, and pornography and file-sharing sites. Before we can enforce these duties, we are required to produce codes of practice and industry guidance to help firms to comply, following a period of public consultation." matone Posted Friday at 15:43 Report Share Posted Friday at 15:43 Been a lot of discussion on a non shooting forum that I frequent in last few days ! General consensus is that most small fora run by individuals/small teams will have to close come March `25 ,as Admins/Mods of same will be liable to huge fines/costs for non compliance with Ofcom rules !!!! Get searching folks we`re about to lose the Internet we know.

welsh1 Posted Friday at 22:28 Report Share Posted Friday at 22:28 Looking at this bag of spanners legislation we seem to be in a good place, we as a site over the years with the help of past admin have a good set of rules in place and the site on a whole is well moderated,i believe as the act comes into place it will be changed as they are made aware of the one size fits all policy doesn't work, let's not all panic just yet and see how things unfold. You would hope so but the present Party in power wanted to make it even more draconian when it was being drawn up !!!!

When all the little community groups who are usually run by karens and generally labour leaning all the sport groups, hobby groups start to complain then i think things will change, the legislation was supposed to go for the corporates fb, x, tictok etc, but people with no real knowledge of online forums seem to have drawn this up. I don't think that such an important thread should have been shut down, would have been better to delete off topic posts and ban warnings given. Belive me Admin have been very lenient to this point, we have already used the ban button this week, we have asked nicely, but if people persist we will ban more. searching through off topic posts is difficult because when you remove it you then have to find anyone who has quoted it and then edit their post or remove it, which then can have a knock on effect that the thread doesn't make sense, we do our best to keep the conversation in order, but there are times where it won't work, and despite admin asking for it to be kept on topic persons persist, it's at this point we chose to remove it. mellors Posted Sunday at 17:40 Author Report Share Posted Sunday at 17:40 What is the position having a closed forum ???. Or restricted access. At present were open to any one looking young or old maybe even partial closure the same as the wanted section maybe the way to go. Also definitely some kind of restricted access to the sales section to new members.

Genghis Posted Sunday at 21:27 Report Share Posted Sunday at 21:27 Currently you can view the entire forum as a guest. Changing that would likely reduce the number of new members as most people to join a forum do so because they have read a topic as a guest and want to post. However, it might be worth considering if there is a need to be more discreet. This still being a fully independent forum going into 2025 is somewhat unique - in a good way. Most similar forums have been bought out and are owned by various corporations. Shotgun World is owned by VerticalScope. I’m not sure who owns airgunforums and thestalkingdirectory but they both use the same template from XenForo for their forums - identical layout just a different colour palette. shootclayforum is independent but is constantly asking for donations to keep going.
