oldypigeonpopper Posted Saturday at 17:53 Report Share Posted Saturday at 17:53 (edited) Hello, As above, It was not long ago this happened local to me , 3 Young men lost their lives when the car hit a Tree going well over the speed limit in Marcham and driver high on Laughing Gas, We do not know the circumstances yet to this but it highlights why do our Young people drive so reckless after Passing a Car Test if that is the same at Marcham, I did a search and it is beyond belief that so many young people across the UK have died or Seriously injured in Car Accidents, As always my thoughts go to the Families who will have a lifetime of Pain, This not only applies to Cars although many many years ago a School friend on his 16th Birthday took out his new Motorbike, Speeding and went off road in to a Building, Killed instantly , Edited Saturday at 18:15 by oldypigeonpopper
TIGHTCHOKE Posted Saturday at 17:58 Report Share Posted Saturday at 17:58 It is a great shame, perhaps stopping new drivers carrying passengers might work?

Young men , testosterone, fast cars , no experience. It's never a good mix . I think the government either has , or is about to , change the law , so that young drivers can't carry Young passengers. Agree, but,,,, passing another law with inhibitions for new drivers will only tempt some to,,,, well, you know 😕

The problem is Young men , and that not quite fully formed brain thing . Young women don't do it. I watched a tv programme some time ago ( i think it was about the insurance industry), and the stats show that a 18 year old male , was something ridiculous like 10,000 percent more likely to be involved in a serious crash , than a 18 year old female. Yeah, I think that's the problem. We had similar years ago, all of them driving into big trees. A yard left or right and,,,, phew !
amateur Posted Saturday at 18:32 Report Share Posted Saturday at 18:32 If they do prevent new drivers from carrying passengers, that will destroy the main reason for young lads getting a car. We all wanted passion wagons, didn't we!

Houseplant Posted Saturday at 19:10 Report Share Posted Saturday at 19:10 Sad news. Men spend the first 40 years of their life trying to die and the second 40 years trying to stay alive.

welsh1 Posted Saturday at 19:33 Report Share Posted Saturday at 19:33 Today on my Spyder I had 3 young males in a mini with a very loud exhaust follow me a mile through my town, they tried to intimidate by driving close behind me and revving the engine, I ignored them, we came to a roundabout, they took the wrong lane cut me up on my exit then braked to take an immediate right, causing me to brake to stop hitting them. There was no reason to do it, apart from them being idiots, the daft thing is my Spyder would make them look fools with a little twist of the wrist. People like that usually end up through a hedge on some country road doing an impression of a turtle. I passed the driver on my way home sitting outside the local spar, I had to stop alongside to let ascending traffic pass, funny how he was very sheepish and didn't want to look at me as I stared into his mini lol. oldypigeonpopper Posted Saturday at 19:35 Author Report Share Posted Saturday at 19:35 (edited) Hello, I did not pass my test until in my 20s as had to save up for a mortgage , now it seem that is the priority for a 17 year old, Young male drivers under 25 are in the high group of car accidents , I am pleased my Boys were sensible after they passed the car test, it was still a few years later they got a car of their own Edited Saturday at 19:43 by oldypigeonpopper

To be honest , it's the emergency services that get the really bad stuff . Fair play to them for doing it , because it can't be easy. I've a good mate , that retired from the fire service years ago . He's a really top bloke , and nothing rattles him , but he still wakes up at night crying for his mom.
Westley Posted Saturday at 22:40 Report Share Posted Saturday at 22:40 I have said it before, but, how many of the grieving parents have helped put their offspring on the road in the first place. I know my 2 daughters have certainly helped my Grandkids with their first cars. One of my Grandson's has worked extremely hard and has now at 21 bought a BMW. He has not had any financial help from the family to achieve this, but that fact makes him more careful with his new toy. I have had to give too many parents the bad news regarding their children. I have been retired for 24 years, but I can still remember each one of them, vividly.
Dave-G Posted Saturday at 23:10 Report Share Posted Saturday at 23:10 I got a 20 years old Viva for my lads first car with wing and door repairs. He sort of reluctantly used it but didn't feel a need to show off and didn't get anyone challenging him to be first off at the lights, didnt warrant any trick up bits being bought and the tax and insurance was cheaper. I explained the motive: The above + if he damages it, its no big deal to scrap it while he's still gaining experience. He's never had a bump. It was either go with that or buy his own. These days I think new drivers ought to have a large N plate with driver only printed on it.
Westley Posted Saturday at 23:16 Report Share Posted Saturday at 23:16 Or a compulsory 'Black box' fitted. They DO work, my 18 year old Grandson has one in his Corsa, his driving is certainly curtailed by it.
team tractor Posted Saturday at 23:16 Report Share Posted Saturday at 23:16 The pad at work just wrote his car off into the back of a parked car . He’s 21 . he still has no idea how he did it . my boys on the road this year with a moped . He’s always asking me for advice while we drive . He comes out on my bike lots and I can’t wait for him to have freedom . He’s been ran over a few years back and was lucky . I drill into him about it’s a privilege not a right to h as be a license. What’s mad is I’ve zero points , 5 years ncb as I had to start fresh on the business policy and I’m paying £1200 a year . I’m 43 . How do the lads insure them . i mentioned to one of my lads at work . You have 130bhp in a diesel golf . It’s fast not slow . We had 35bhp in a nova . 39TDS Posted Saturday at 23:20 Report Share Posted Saturday at 23:20 All I can say is there but for the grace of God go I. When my lad passed his test it was at least 3 months before I could sleep before he came home. My wife's brother wasn't so lucky, he didn't come home and nor did his mate. It breaks the family and I say that from that experience.

mel b3 Posted Sunday at 06:38 Report Share Posted Sunday at 06:38 I've always lived in fear of my kids being as reckless and stupid as I was as a young man. I bought my lads first car , so that he wouldn't buy anything stupidly fast ( 1.0l clio). When he got home from passing his test , I got him to take me shooting, so that he could do a good few miles on country lanes , and I could drum into him , that even with no road markings , you still have to drive on the left , or you'll probably just die in a head on collision , because nobody will be around to call an ambulance for you. I took him on a motorway, to get him used to driving on the inside lane , at 60mph , with hgvs . Your average lorry driver , is much safer to be around than your average car driver . I made sure that he had a clear understanding of the way things work. If myself, or anyone else I know, sees him driving at more than 30mph , it's an automatic 12 months driving ban. If myself, or anyone else I know, sees him driving with a car full of mates , it's an automatic 12 months driving ban. If myself, or anyone else I know , hears him driving with the stereo so loud that it distracts him from driving , it's an automatic 12 months driving ban. His mobile phone goes in the glove box while he's driving , and if myself , or anyone else I know, sees him using it while he's driving , I'll ram it up his xxxx so xxxxxxx hard it'll knock his back teeth out , and he'll get an automatic 12 months driving ban. If myself, or anyone else I know , ever sees him drinking and driving , he'll get an automatic life time driving ban , and I'll drag him to the police station myself. Yes I might have taken a bit of fun out of his early driving , but it was my job as his dad to teach him car safety , in just the same way that he was taught , to swim , to cross a road safely , and to handle a gun safely.
