Old age again.

Really catching up with a vengeance. Got my T Wild hammergun out for a wipe down as I do. Not shot it for a couple of years. AND I CAN HARDLY COCK IT. No strength in my hands. This gun does have strong hammer springs but a go at the clays is now out of the question. Lovely gun but not worth having lighter springs put in. So it's off to the sales section I fear. I have already sold off a couple of lovely airguns because I found them hard to cock Lighter springs was not an option.

That's a real shame.

I'm the same.

The mind is more than willing but negotiations with the body are failing fast.

The main thing is to get out, things seem to improve considerably when a good flightline is spotted.

They say the older we get the dafter we get.

Sadly that is part of the package for being on planet earth , funny enough I had a nice T Wild hammer gun and the hammers were the same as you just mentioned , I was a bricklayer until I retired and my arms were nearly as thick as my legs , never even noticed how tight the hammers were , just a quick flick with my thumb and you were ready to shoot , I first noticed the lack of strength when I had a job in pulling the arm on a manuel clay pigeon trap and when I had a bath I noticed how thin my arms were getting , still you just got on with it , I have still got a nice s x s T Wild hammerless n /ej which will see me out and whoever own it after me , I am now coming up to 78 and re access the situation in a couple of years time if I reach the next milestone , the only thing that have changed is I no longer buy stuff with a very long shelf life , just in case

The one thing (at the moment) that stops me shooting as much as I would like, is the bad arthritis in my right knee. Not so much old age, although I am nearing 68, but through an injury many years ago. Sadly, my left knee is starting to show signs as well.

I am the same broke my right shoulder twice when I was a kid & now it’s come back to haunt me in a big way + i really don’t think the UK climate helps 🥶🥶🥶

My old man who riddled with arthritis in his ankles states when asked why he is still beating ( really just tapping in) he’s 84

Well living with it and arguing with it everyday in day being out is better than being 6 feet under !

Keep fighting chaps and if ever you need someone to cock a hammer gun for you at a clay shoot shout up there daft younger old farts ( 54 ) like me that would if we could!

Dunks and all,

I'm same, a Webley Mk 111 airgun takes some cocking now, but am thinking we can still build up some lost muscles if we keep trying.

Try cocking the wild a few times, then go and try it again in a day or two.

Do this for a week and see how it goes.

I seem to get up worn out at moment. arthritis in knees, shoulder neck arms and fingers..  Its a so and so.

Need a bullet in me pocket to bight on if i go for a walk!

Still, as long as we are viewing the tulips from the topside that's good!

Hello, Sorry to hear that Dunks, Just had a MOT at the GPs and that did not bode well, A PCP Air Rifle but your need to get an Air Cylinder, A Pump would be to much unless you had a family member could fill, Have you another shotgun for Clays ??

I have many guns to shoot clays with, all either too heavy or blackpowder proofed only. I am after a little light .410 Thanks for the concern,😃

Graham Mackinlay has a lovely William Evan’s boxlock ejector single barrel .410. Octagonal to round barrel and long stock. Comes up lovely light but not too light not advertised yet the last time I looked. £600 I nearly bought it despite having absolutely no need it’s just such a lovely gun. Didn’t look up the barrel but Graham could advise ,he should be back at work next week.

Just a thought Dunks ,the octagonal breech gives it an almost over and under sight plane. If there was no lead shot restrictions worry  I’d have bought it. I still might.

In keeping with the age OP I could buy up a fair bit of lead shot cartridges and feign old age forgetfulness for continuing to use it post ban. It might be one of the few benefits of old age.
