garyb
Agree with Alex... I like the shop, but the customer service is awful... I've lost count of the times that I've phoned up to enquire about spending my hard earned on certain products - to be told "someone will call you back", or "we'll phone you when we have stock" And yet I never hear a thing... Lately I've been using Roding Armory instead.
majordisorder
I agree with you re: Donaldsons in Fenny Stratford, not very helpful unless you're lloking to blow big cash. A bit up themselves too I find. R&K Stockcraft - OKish. They are expensive and they do take the 'up themselves' award for the area. The taller chap (I think an/the owner) is almost a caricature of himself. I had need to take a tx200 to their gunsmith to have work done. It was resprung and serviced but was awful to cock (LOADS of effort) and recoiled horribly. Cost the thick end of 60 quid too. I wouldn't take a gun there for work to be done. You can only afford to be so pompous if you give great service at a sensible price. Castle Ashby Gun Room? Seem OK but I have call to question the chaps knowledge. Good prices though and friendly enough. I'm certainly happy to go there for carts. Not sure on their gun prices yet but they seem to have a reasonable selection of used SBS and O/U's. Sadly Willards in New Bradwell, Milton Keynes only goes as far as FAC/Legal Limit Air rifles which is a shame because Tims knowledge is excellent and he himself is an excellent smith. Prices are decent and you get good advice. If anyone can recommend an outstanding gunshop not massively far from MK/Bedford/Northampton area I would be very grateful. Duncan You should try "Northampton Gun" about a 1 minute walk from the Saints ground in Northampton. Great, friendly service, good prices and quite a good selection of kit. Got a very good px on my last gun and a very good price on a new one too. Cartridge prices are okay, not the cheapest (£3-5 more / thou than the best places) but you can park right outside to load up. Contrast that with the gun shop at Sporting Targets (Riseley) who have good cart prices but are having a laugh with the guns, obviously don't want to sell many...... I know exactly what you mean about Donaldsons and R&K, a visit there make me want to slit my wrists. berties
Agreed I was quoted, from Lambert and Wilts, for a stock adjustment (comb lowered and cast taken off) and to replace the little bit of solder that fills the gap between the rib and barrels at the muzzle, a reasonable sum of £80. A week later I picked up the gun, cast was taken off comb was lowered, no oil had been applied to where the comb had been sanded down, so you could clearly see the lighter/bare wood no solder in the gap at the muzzle end of the barrels Tells me I owe £100 for the work Geoff at L+W is a great guy but talks to much takes on to much work, never had any problems the chap in the gun room is a sales man so will sell you any thing, for fitting he does it by eye as he says! Another 15 miles drive mulliner guns would have done the job but the cost would have been more,I do have confidence in Geoff as a gun smith and am sure he would rectify problems but would always check he's finished before I travel down to him
rcooke25552
cheshire gun room. biggest rip off ever. i ordered a spring and seals for my springer which where due in next morning. 3 weeks later they still hadnt come. then i said i wanted my money back, and they were there an hour after i left conviently. put the new parts in, went to get it cronographed and was told it was producing 2.3 ft lbs. they told me that they would put it to the limit for £100. i said no thanks. took it to manchester air guns and they cronographed it at 14.8 whilst i was watching so i know he wasnt lying. he cut the spring down etc for free and was really helpful unlike the c**ts who run cheshire gun room. and for that reason, i think they are the worse lol

Apparently, accoring to the "gunsmith" you must use 100gr on deer no matter where it is! Muppets!! If charging top wack at least know what your talking about and offer something special like great service. BobbyGee
I can recall going into AE Clarks in Camberley many years ago and getting service that leaves anything I've read on this thread as "mild". Ignorant and full of self importance, I vowed that I would never go back! It may have been on here that I read they had new owners, went in a couple of weeks back to find the place transformed, I've been back a couple of times now and have to say they will get my business from now on.A perfect example of how people not location makes the difference between good and unbelivably poor. I got both my rifles from them and they are friendly and helpful, and will spend as much time helping you as you need. They could do with a bit more parking though, especially when the Saints are playing.
Bleeh
I'm having a few issues with Robert Tilneys in Beccles at the moment. Bought a .22lr off him, - started jamming almost immediatley, took it back but for some bizare reason the trigger returned to me with a pull otherwise only known to a bakial shotgun. Gave it a go anyhow, but couldn't get on, so I sent it back, and then was later returned to me; tried using it at it started firing 4-5 bullets at once, then the firing pin broke, took it back one last time (3 weeks ago this saturday) and I've phoned him each weekend and he's given me an excuse why he's not gotten round to it yet. If it's not sorted this saturday I'll be asking for a long overdue refund.
Gordon R
McAvoys at Standish and Bamfords at Eccleston are both good. Malmo Guns at Bay Horse Lancaster are the best in the North West. Good stock, decent prices, parking and friendly staff - bought a few guns from them.
AlistairB
For BAD: The Barn Shop at Royston, what a bunch of wnakers! for good: Either R & K Stockcraft in Stony Stratford, or John Eaststaff in Sandy. AB

Bazooka Joe
Yep Deep Blue weren't all that helpful when we were down, to far to travel for what they had. Half decent round ours, Weldon Gun Room (if they would return phone calls)..same for Braford Stalkers, & always had polite service from Alan at Bagnal & Kirkwood down Newcastle. Another shop same colour, Blue Teal at Bishop Auckland, didn't even have any cartridges, heads, primers, powder etc, excuse was he wasn't going to take the chance the way scrap prices are to be stuck with them Pleny guns, but no ammo  Wasted journey, so won't going back there again soon
figgy
Got to agree with ab1964 thumbs up to northallerton shooting and country, allways had good service and advice, bought my new gun from them recently very helpfull and at no point was i pressured to buy or shown something else they wanted to shift like some ive been in.Thumbs upto also to gillsan sports in richmond dealt with simon fenwick for years since he started running it when i only had air riflesback then gets a bit rushed off his feet now days doing most of the game fairs,my wife phoned there first for me as i was at work allday no phones allowed when wanting my new gun as he always done a deal in the past didnt have the gun in stock but could order it in, said price would be more than if it was on the shelf then advised me to find one allready in a gun shop as prices are going up again and i would not be able to buy cheaper not many gun shops like this about anymore didnt say who i was when the wife phoned so this advice was to anyone. The bad been treated indiffrently on a few occasions in bradford stalkers not enough to put me off completely but would choose others first to spend my money in, also had good and bad in sam turners, good service when bought stuff for myself in shop with mates bad when buying stuff for wife in shop with the wife. Its good to know where to spend our hard earned in the gunshops that look after us and leave the cack ones alone. ALB Figgy

I was talking to 1 of the lads in there and they are extremely busy.never had any problems from them at all in the last 2 years I think there is a conspiracy surrounding them and are being setup by other traders to make them look bad people,If that is so then it aint working. whenever I have ordered anything it has arrived on time been in good working order and never had a problem. There is no conspiracy - they just have given lots of people really, really poor service - and takes months to get refunds, infact they dont give refunds unless small claims etc are threatened. Glad you got good service though. Edited February 11, 2011 by Hot-Shot

chefdon50
New addition in Manchester is Hook Line and Guns in Blackley Best part about it is use them for the first and only time. Got a gun RFD to them which was paid by Avalon Guns He then also charged me a document fee that he had already been paid for. Checked with Avalon who said I should not have paid, Also when I assembled gun, he took it off me to 'check it out'n then blank fired both barrels without snap caps. When I told him not to do it, he said 'It wont harm the gun'. SOME PROFESSIONAL HEY. Needless to say, first and last time.
