steve_b_wales
Just heard on the news that the scumbag who planted the bomb in the Lockerbie tragedy will probably be allowed to leave prison this week on 'compassionate grounds' because he his suffering with terminal cancer (shame!) He will be allowed to 'spend the rest of his time' with his family. Let the ******* rot in prison.

Gordon R
If only the people who were killed could have spent some time withy their families before he killed them. Can't really believe we have been so generous. The reasoning is beyond me. Who are we trying to impress?

However, he was found guilty, and I am sorry to say that he really ought to serve out his time. LS
alexr
From what I’ve seen and heard on the news about this the families divide down national lines. The Americans want him dead and the British feel there may be grounds for compassion. Also the Scottish criminal cases review board have stated that there is sufficient evidence for a retrial on the grounds that the initial conviction may be unsound That is not to state that he may be innocent, rather that he may no be proven to be guilty. Not proven is a potential out come under Scots law. It basically means we know you did it but we cant prove it.

steve_b_wales
It was when a bomb was planted on a PAN AM (I think) plane that was flying to America. I think the bomb was supposed to have gone off when the plane was over the Atlantic ocean. Instead, it exploded over land and the plane came down on the town of Lockerbie in Scotland, killing all those on board the aircraft, and a number on the ground
Gordon R
He has withdrawn his appeal against conviction. Nice to see he sacrificed his principles at the end, just so he could go home. I think some of the parents feel that there was more to it than just this man. Now he has withdrawn, there is no obstacle to granting his freedom, other than someone with a brain cell, also in touch with public opinion, who can say - NO. bruno22rf
I think that compassion and understanding is called for as the poor man is suffering.I think that no expense should be spared in finding him a comfortable home in which to see out his days-somewhere along Lockerbie high street would be good-maybe with his name over the door? Delbert
He should finish the sentence in a prison in Libya no reason why the NHS should be saddled with the costs of treatment. The regime would not dare release him and they can house the *** in one of their lovely cells I'd take a guess and say they are unlikely to have aircon cable TV or gourmet menu's

Nial
I've heard a couple of british victims relatives interviewed about him dropping his appeal. They both said they were 'really angry', but it wasn't that he might be released, it's because his appeal won't be heard and the new evidence won't come to light. They both said there's more to the whole affair than meets the eye. Nial. Edited August 20, 2009 by Nial
