  1. This is indeed a matter for your payroll dept and the Finance Director or Chief Accountant responsible for that system I would write to the FD or Chief Acct with copies of both your Jan and Feb payslips pointing out the problem and stating that you have asked his staff to resolve the problem but as they are unable to do so will he/she now resolve the matter for you. For good measure you could add that from a systems viewpoint he/she will no doubt find this worrying as payroll reconciliation controls should have already identified the matter and staff should have been dealing with it. My background was accounting including payroll (long ago) and had this happened I would be extremely worried as to who is tinkering with the system and why?
  2. Mmmmmm. Food for thought. I just fuelled my 2021 to the brim at Costco (petrol £1.51 litre). Fingers crossed.
  3. Comparing the BASC interpretation of the proposed Scottish bill with The Hunting Act 2004 (England and Wales) then the Scottish proposal does, unfortunately, seem to go further than the 2004 Act by making the hunting of rabbits with dogs in Scotland illegal. My reading of the 2004 act is that it is illegal to hunt a wild mammal with a dog unless that mammal is exempt. Rabbits and rats are exempt (subject to certain conditions) and can be hunted with dogs. Retrieval of hares is that the hunting of a hare which has been shot is exempt but other than that it would seem that hunting hares with dogs is illegal. Fired up by the Packham’s and Princess Numb Nuts of this world, the public does not understand or want to understand that the opportunity to hunt with dogs is very restricted and covered by legislation.
  4. In Bristol some streets are 30mph, some are 20mph. So, you have to keep alert to change. A momentary lapse last year and I was caught at 28 in 30 zone. Fortunately I was offered a speed awareness course, by Zoom! The high take up of e-scooters means that I am often under taken and overtaken by scooters in 20mph zones, sometimes with two on one scooter.! To the OP I would say ignore barrack room lawyers, bite on the bullet, take the course and get on enjoying your shooting.
  5. Sorry to learn of your reason for finishing. Mine was old age and reducing core strength. Yes Scapa is good. The Buitenzorg was too deep for me, although I did a couple of 60 mtr wrecks in Truk (on air). Like you, my remaining cylinders are good for my AA S410. As the saying goes “ when one door closes another on opens”. Good shooting.
  6. Ditto. It really is a thrill to descend down a line and see a large wreck come into view and then have the opportunity to explore it. My closest experience to Endurance were the many intact wrecks in Truk Lagoon. The main downside was that the wood eating micro organisms had done their damage as can be seen from the deposits in this engine room
  7. Was it a test? Because I made it 30.658 sq mtrs
  8. I appreciate that this was from a newspaper report but out of academic interest I can find no reference in GL40 which restricts conservation of wild birds to their nesting season. Presumably another case of misreporting.
  9. “Bury my heart at wounded knee” by Dee Brown. An interesting read. This book expresses details of the history of American expansionism.
  10. Too true. Why are chips today so pale, yellow and soggy. Even crispy ones are insipid colourless excuses of what used to be. No cooked brown colour. Is it because today they’re cooked in oil whereas years back they would have been cooked in beef dripping? And often there is a thin layer of sog between the batter and fish.

    Scam?

Passed through Tockington village (outside Bristol) today and two people in High viz jackets stamped “Community Speedwatch” were there checking drivers speed. And about three months ago I got a similar letter from Avon and Somerset for allegedly speeding in Tytherington, a village about 3-4 miles from Tockington. Looks like the fad is spreading in South Glos.
  12. According to HM Gov website “ only if you got it illegally “.
  13. As a matter of interest, how does sugar and bicarb work? Thanks.
  14. A method I learnt of years ago from an old warehouseman but I have never had need to use. A saucer of sugar mixed with dry cement powder and a saucer of water nearby.
  15. Ditto here in Bishopston, Bristol. Slight breeze high light cloud motoring strongly north. No rain. Lull before the storm?
  16. Added to this, the Mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees, has recently announced that he is actively looking at trialing rent caps in the private rental market.
  17. When it comes to house price inflation let us not forget the greedy banks and building societies which created the interest only mortgage. These were used by uk borrowers to purchase a higher value property than they could afford with a capital or repayment mortgage thus driving up house prices.
  18. A donation to her charity! It’s not stated where the charity is registered so any controls over it - like The Charities Commission in the UK - will be unknown. Many such devices are known as washing machines. A way to launder money. With little or no controls over beneficiaries or consultant fees. So the opportunity for Ms Guiffre to benefit personally are enormous, despite public statements that the charity is for the benefit of others.
  19. If the cylinder has a pillar valve capable of supporting diving then it will regarded as a diving cylinder. It will have to have a hydrostatic test 5 years from the date of manufacture (stamped on the shoulder of the cylinder) and a visual test half way through that period. The test date is stamped into the shoulder and the test centre will add an IDEST sticker with holes punched through month and year which will give the next test date.
  20. Agreed. And in that case my thoughts turn to the words of Mr Bumble (Oliver Twist) “ the law is an ***”
  21. IF the vendor did not make available the warranty conditions before you bought the gun I would question if they could rely on them after the event. Or, is it acceptable that the warranty can try to deny you any rights you may have under the Sale of Goods act etc. Also, could the term of the warranty be an unreasonable condition. Perhaps a trip to Citizens Advice to see if a free 30 mins with a solicitor is available. Just a thought.

    Gun repair

Recently I sent my AA s410 carbine (with Ben Taylor fitted Reg) to The Airgun Doctor. Good service by Simon.
  23. Is there a Chartered Surveyor on this forum who can offer initial outline advice on a particular aspect of this Act please? To my amateur reading the Act seems silent on whether an affected neighbour can refuse scaffolding on his / her land and, if they can, what is the legal basis for that refusal. Certainly the developers builder and equipment can come and go during the working day but there seems no mention of scaffolding which would still be there at the end of the day. Hence the question. Thanks.
  24. Inside the packet was the slogan “It’s the tobacco that counts” which gave rise to an infantile shaggy dog story joke.
  25. I too am a fan of Opinel knives. I have three. But it is useful to remember that they are lock knives and carrying one in a public place without good reason has its risks.
