Excellent work. I am itching to get out on the rabbits but want to hold off to spring. Its not looking good when I see posts like yours tempting me out.

Not sure where this thread is going. I just shoot the rifles I have and don't worry about two much of anything so long as i can get the thing on target. I don't see a mention of energy density. I often wonder why a shotgun pellet can kill so effectively with so little energy per pellet. Even if a few find the target the energy imparted maybe very low compared to air rifle. No 6 shot at 40 yds only 1.4ftlb traveling at 180ms.

Its the same with old cars. I got into a Hilman imp recently which was my first car. The smell was just the same for a moment I was 18 again. No fishy memories for me

And know that whatever you get is unlikely to be the one that you want / need later so maybe don't spend so much?

Used my new 3ply today for the first time and am pretty impressed. Its a shade heavier than the 2ply so not so flappy, Vision through is good if sat back and being that little bit stiffer (maybe newness) it was less bramble prone.

Feed them to the dog if its a few.One farm i use gets me to bag them for the fire another gets me to put them in the animal bin. Come round to may / june and there will be hundreds they can be a real problem to dispose off. Just picking them up and moving them off the fields is a challenge.

Looks a sturdy bit of kit. Far better than the old one I am using which has just been signed off for FAC no problem.

I saw you were out! How fast were those birds lol.

Very sad news. RIP Duchess they are so much more than dogs and as close as family. Having lost mine a couple of weeks back I know the responses on here helped me and made up my mind to get a new one asap.

Well done it was a truly windy day. No doubt tying the hide to the tree was a good idea.

The inlaws over for easter are in town . The local farmer calls to say that there are pigeons on the Barley at the top of the hill. Its unusual for farmers to call me. The most I usually get is 'I was going to call there were lots here last week'. This farmer will call when he sees a pigeon flying over the village so I was not hopeful but, having had a around 60 mixed blacks off the fields the last few days, off i went. Sure enough on the top of the hill were a couple of birds but it was blowing a gale. I thought too windy to set up there I will have to decoy them to the other side out of the wind. Better there for them and me. So I set up on the side only to watch them come in to the top of the hill and ignore my deeks. After 20 mins I bit the bullet and relocated to the top of the hill with the wind directly on the front of the hide. The next 30 mins was spent trying to keep the hide up with rocks and flapper poles as I had forgotten to take my line and pegs. It was truly awful, peering through the net almost on my face when a flock of maybe 50 birds came in, Standing up the hide almost on me to confront a swirling mass of birds going in all directions. Needless to say my three shots found the small empty spaces between the birds and i thought what a great start. The birds flew around and came back in? I thought they are not supposed to do that so stood up and took a pair. Its getting better and the wind eased and they kept coming for a couple of hours when it started to rain and i finished with 31 shot and 27 picked. A nice afternoon out after all

I have a card from the Slovak inlaws to say 'Happy big night'. Not sure what to expect? Either my luck is in or the end is nigh!

I have recently swapped my td5 90 for a 2.5 Hilux (2012). As a shoot bus its awesome, decent off road, refined and 35mpg. My wife who only drove the td5 as a last resort, says the Hilux is good enough to use as the family vehicle (holiday car for the two of us with a dog, boat, bikes etc). Apparently the new model Hilux is good enough to pass for an SUV. Suggested my wife looks at it to replace her CRV rather than a Disco Sport but this was not well received

I hope the answer is 3ply as my new 3ply net (5m for £25) has just arrived. I have been using two nets at 2 ply (colour combo) with one net thickness at eye level. I am hoping that using the 3 ply combined with my other net will give even greater concealment particularly when you get sunlight silhouette.

Interesting thread. I cant see why you cant push the velocity to 1050 fps still sub sonic. This is where my air ranger is and its fine at 40ftlb. What would be gained from .25? More energy at the receiving end for sure but many would say that 20ftlb or so is more than enough? The down side for me with .25 would be pellet choice / shot count. If you need more power then you have to look at r/f or c/f. Looking at some of the stuff from the states I see very high energy levels being achieved with slugs to take down all sorts of large game. I guess in the UK the more natural choice is to go live.

Well done Bruno for making the effort. I am glad to see its not just me that does this sort of thing Friends often say how nice our eggs are but I cannot tell the difference with the free range eggs I have from my garden or the ones that I get from the shop, supermarket or otherwise. I think the yolk colour comes from diet and can easily be varied / enhanced. One of the reasons for a bland taste from an egg is washing it allowing water to penetrate the shell.

Great read thx. Love the pics too.

Never in the middle of the field. ,,,,,discuss.
oowee replied to Columba Grey's topic in Talk From The Field
I have done it on standing wheat with a standard hide kit made into a square. There was a flattened patch that they were dropping in that i could not reach from the edge of the field. I made a 1m square box with two nets and sat in there. It worked a treat as that was where they wanted to be. Not sure on rape but must be worth a try? -
Yes please

I like it well done on a great build.
