  1. Nail on head again. No, only during the mating process.

    7x57

Fought my way through spiders and dust but no 7x57 dies unfortunately.. I believe I may have sold them with the rifle about 15yrs ago.
  3. That looks awesome and folks say they can't afford to eat.
  4. Yes I agree, lots of work gone on there to have your 14 month old doing so well. Don't doubt for one moment you will have days tearing your hair out....been there done that... but obviously the basics have been taught.
  5. On the nail, spot on. I have known such people and one in particular was up at 4am EVERY morning to get to the factory and rarely got home before early evening. 12 to 14hr days every day. Yes, he had a driver but that driver would not have had his job would he without The Boss. He treated his workers as equals but at one point a Union member worked himself into a job there and started trouble. My friend imedialtely called the workers together and said that as of that weekend they didn't have a job as he was selling the business. You can bet the Union idiot didn't last the day out. My old Grandmother used to say that envy was the biggest evil in the world.
  6. When I was a young lad, I'm talking 70years ago, I was ordered to save any Perch over a pound for my grandfather and also any pike but preferably Jacks. I would put them in a bucket and transport them back to the farm and he would put them in the large galavanised drinking trough used by the cows he said to remove the earthy taste. I ate my share back then and a fillet of perch properly prepared takes some beating.
  7. But Ditchie it is far more difficult to train the owners, don't always blame the dog. Hard headed little beast are beagles but once they know who is boss are fantastic companions. A joy around here was watching them work a hare which they rarely caught, in fact I have seen the hare stop and wait for them to catch up. Ref Owners. In this small village I can point out a half dozen good dogs spoilt through poor or non existent training.

    7x57

I might have some dies, I will have a look and come back to you. Great cartridge by the way, I don't have one today but in the past I have shot a lot of big game with the 7mm Mauser. I now shoot a 257 Roberts which is a wild cat built on the 7x57 case. Another great cartridge. I'll dig around and see what I have tomorrow.
  9. Have not had time yet but 11 tree rats in five days on a 20yrd flip top agree my old AA200 can still group them. Will hope to put up a card this week some time if the weather stays tidy.
  10. I have said it before but still fits this situation. My wife was about to apply for the Magistrates and a Magistrate friend of some years experience told her not to bother because she would tear her hair out at the restrictions placed upon them. Same here I'm afraid. Dealing drugs minimum 20yrs in my view. The other guy should have been given a lifetime suspended sentence.
  11. Well I struggled to get five last Thursday so six in an hour and a half this morning on the same flip top in the farm yard made up for it 3475
  12. Yes it was a super morning but not for six tree rats. A great write up, I felt I was there.
  13. As instructed, out checking traps and just rang in to say we had one in the Cherry Tree trap.
  14. I believe I have said it before. Get 'em trained from day one and I am not talking about a puppy.
  15. Duster returned yesterday now fully operational. Electrical gismo parts replaced under warranty. Hopefully will have no furrher problems with it. As a rule I am very pleased with it . It does just what I need it to do. Lots of room in the back with seats folded. $ wheel drive if I need it but apart fromtesting it on a slippery slope I have not needed to switch from 2 wheel as yet off road. Really muddy slippery slope out of the farm yard it went up in 2 wd no problem and this is on serious town tyres. To be fair to the supplier, he purchased it as many second hand car dealers do, from auction and had he not driven it for any distance would not have noticed the problem. I only noticed a slight tendency to hesitate after a couple of days. I suspect the previous owner had chopped it in for a new one and as happens the dealer put it straight into auction. It is a regular problem with the modern ciomputer controlled cars so I am told.
  16. Hope it doesnt spread , I have three more days booked in North Leicestershire. Lots of birds and no problems there so far.
  17. Yep, sell it and buy a new one.
  18. Love that dog. Give him/her a Christmas cuddle from the UK. Great picture and here the media are trembling because we had about 10cm of snow in London..
  19. Just a measly 5 this morning from the farm yard flip top.... 3449
  20. I believe it may be due to guaranteed loads. I know from reloading that 18.7g fits perfectly and 19 g is just a couple of pellets too many. If Fiocchi could not guarantee a full 19g the fear would be that some smart alec would weigh the load and complain. The difference is three/four #6 shot. Put the bird in the pattern and you will not notice the difference niether will the bird. If you have a selection of chokes then do some pattern testing at a MEASURED 35yrds to find the best choke for your needs and that of the cartridge because I have found 410s are peticularly finicky with chokes. Hope this helps. I was on a driven day last week and a young boy was sharing the day with his dad. He was shooting 2 1/2s and killed a good cock pheasant, clean as a whistle at about 25yrds. I gave him a couple of my 18.7g 3 inch reloads and he had a smile so big his head almost fell off. He killed a real corker. Great to see and he was going to keep that empty case. I don't know his age but guess about 12-13yrs.
  21. That is beautiful, seriously to good to use.
  22. Great report and pics. Finally after 4 weeks I have my wheels back so out again in the morning to the farm and then plan the golf course Saturday morning. The grass has still not been harvested at the farm so two of my flip tops have not been visited. One being the pear tree where my best morning couple of hours was 9 so as soon as I can get at that I will fill up the feeder, leave it 48hrs and have a look. Not seeing many about in our village although my wife managed to sort one as she drove to the shops with her Skoda. Y'alll have a great Christmas and best wishes for a succesful , happy New Year.
  23. Had a knock on the door this morning and there stood a delivery guy with a heavy parcel. I had been pre warned it was on it's way. The kindness and generousity of PW memmbers never ceases to amaze me. The box contained 12 bottles of home made elderflower champers. many thanks to 7 days in a week. I have placed them as advised in our big fridge to settle down and plan to try a bottle or two early in January when we have some friends round for a luncheon party. Full report on the wine after that date.
  24. ...and these guys own their own vans as well. Fair enough if Easter European because I have seen dwellings down the bottom end of such tracks over there.
