  1. I didn't send either one their way. But using your analogy, if your were in the middle of sorting our a difficult lambing would you just drop everything and happily spend an hour with the bobby going through everything whilst the lamb died? Would you happily cancel a days shooting because they turned up out the blue? And then when you read the cert it's wrong and you post it back and get the replacent in the post! It is not always convienet to drop everything. Again using your annalogy, would you welcome someone in plain clothes you had no idea who they were just as long as they said "I'm your bobby"?
  2. That depends on what the visit is for. One was for delivering a new cert and then expecting to check all my firearms and the other was to inspect my security about a year after I moved. Neither met the guidelines for an unnanounced visit that I'm aware of. Another thing I remember, BASC advise you to call your local firearms licensing dept if you have doubts but both my visits were on a Saturday and the department isn't staffed on a weekend. My reference to civilian FEO was mearly trying to separate them from a uniformed police officer. Anyway, this is the advice I now follow. https://basc.org.uk/unannounced-visits-to-certificate-holders-basc-advice-to-members-2/
  3. It's not just a matter of 'not convenient', it's a serious matter of security. Many people will not know who the person is. I've not seen the same FEO twice, so both unannounced visits I didn't have a clue who they were (no photos on their web site for example and now there are no names). I've raised this and it's been suggested I could verify via 101, last time we called that for an unrelated reason it took them over an hour to answer. Note I'm talking about civilian FEOs not uniformed police. Without wishing to go on I'd suggest the OP to ask thier own dept what they expect.
  4. Perhaps yours do but I've had a couple turn up unannounced because they simply could not be bothered to phone. One moaned he'd been waiting outside for over an hour as I'd been out! The other saided he'd phoned but checking my phone there were no missed calls so reach you own conclusions. I will not longer allow an unannounced visit without good reason.
  5. Would Eley No 78 be the same as Nobel - 78? If so there is ***-78 data about.
  6. This might be helpful to work out some of the proof marks if it's Spanish (Laurona?). https://www.shotguns.se/html/spain.html https://www.shotguns.se/html/spanish_trademarks.html
  7. Appologies if this is a daft suggestion but would copper coated lead offer a better pattern at 50/55 yards?
  8. It's also a bit daft because if your name is something like John Smith you'll still be mostly anonmous as there's thousands of them but if it's something like Zaphod Beeblebrox you'll be instantly identifiable as there's only one or two of you.
  9. I used the CD when I did mine and it was useful. I didn't find the questions too tricky as they're multiple choice and some of the 'wrong' answers are just daft. (Some examples are here: https://www.dmq.org.uk/downloads/ ) I also found the dates a bit tricky especially as I would have thought anyone would check them if in any doubt. What I did find useful is adding some meaning to the date, so in England the roe buck open season is April 1st to Oct 31, fools day to halloween. The roe doe open season is the opposite so Nov 1st to 31st Mar.
  10. Would it be at all possible for someone to post up a picture of the decapping pin? I picked up one of these machines a while back and it was missing the pin. Many thanks.
  11. Link to the blog. https://basc.org.uk/two-year-lead-ammunition-review-the-call-for-evidence/ Link to BASCs weekly newsletter subscription: https://basc.org.uk/basc-live/
  12. I'm not recomending them just pointing out they exist, although as has been said they may not be in stock.
  13. https://www.justcartridges.com/product/mammoth-magnum-steel-12ga-2/ https://www.google.com/search?q=Gamebore+Mammoth+Magnum+Steel (Edit to add, they would be HP steel, not standard).
  14. I use my own boxes like these: https://www.fourteenacre.co.uk/shop/fineren-bodygrip-box-for-squirrels/ If you look at the photo the middle hole means you know exactly where the squirrel will trigger the trap. You can then bend the trigger to suit, it can be bent up so the trap will catch the neck. I suppose the risk of that would be catching the head so don't bend it too far.
  15. As suggested, what is the twist rate of the barrel? A quick google suggests a 1 in 8 would be better than a 1 in 10 for 100gr bullets. Worth looking into?
  16. 0.212" max is says online, which is 5.3848mm. Just measured my CCI 300s and they come in at 5.35mm Edit to add, I'm not sure what you mean by "Not the outer rim but the bit that pushes into the cartridge" as the whole primer will push flush to the brass case.
  17. What cases are you loading? I know the Magtech cases take a large pistol primer.
  18. It's been the Consumer Rights Act since 2015. You would also need to claim against the seller not the manufacturer and being 2nd hand also complicates it.
  19. You often get a different set of data in a reloading manual compared to the powder data. Different bullet makes, different barrel lengths, different cases & primers. Worth looking at both IMO.
  20. As I understand it this is old technology where the petrol engine charges the battery along with energy recovery from breaking etc. So, once the battery is exhausted the petrol engine will run, even if you never exceed 40.
  21. Of course not, but what about the sunflower seeds, niger seeds, peanuts etc etc, are you claiming they are all completely waste products, not even fit for biofuel? There are also other problems with feeding, many people don't clean bird feeders regularly which spreads disease. I gather this is one possible reason for the demise of greenfinches?
  22. I hardly ever feed the birds around here but concentrate on allowing natural food sources to flourish, for example allowing thistles and dandelions to go to seed. (I don't have any near neighbours to annoy). At this time of year there's hundreds of finches about the place. When I read the article I thought it was about time someone questioned the amount of feeding of wilds birds and the imbalances it makes. I also wonder what damage is done to the environment with all the land taken up growing bird seed.
  23. Have you chronoed other carts? The Eley 2.5"s are listed as 1300 fps at the muzzle. They do seem to be as quiet as the 3" subsonic load in my modded .410, the normal 3" carts are noticeably louder (and are listed as 1375 fps)
  24. I think that's the related American plant. This is more likely to be Viburnum opulus i.e. guelder rose,
  25. I don't know if you're agreeing with me or having a go. 🤣 To clarify my point. I know what @Sprucey wrote but I'm querying did he actually mean 'refused' in a legal, insurance, meaning? I.e. will DL still insure the vehicle if cartridges are not carried? I will also add, did the call centre person mean what they said? More than once I've been told the wrong thing so I would ask to speak to a manager or underwriter to clarify exactly what is covered. There may also be confusion over words such as 'transported' as they may think you're delivering cartridges as opposed to personal use.
