Reminds me of the Americans I had to share a hotel with last year. "OHHH MYYY GHOOODDD, YOUR FROM THE YOU KAY?" "No, England, London, England, cup of tea and all that." PhilR
Traced my old man's roots back to 1640's in Cheshire. Stuck at the mo with my mum's in Essex around 1840. I reckon I'm English but am I a Northerner or Southerner?
Zapp
I'm British, by virtue of the fact that my Mother is English of long descent, and my Father is a Scot. His Grandparents are from Belfast, though their descendants are from Sligo and elsewhere. A relative of mine was the Irish Ambassador to the American Colonies during the mid 18th Century. I identify myself as English, simply because I have no cultural references from my other lines of descent, as Dad is a normal person and not a "Hoots ma boab, yis Unglish" Jocko cartoon Scot living in England. alexr
British and Scottish, but also from Manchester, Dundee, Glasgow, Paisley, Barhead and Neilston. Essentially very confused, but proud of it ! Was once stopped in LAX by a huge security guard with a gun at her hip that looked as if it should have been belt fed. She was also confused. She wanted to know how I could be Scottish living in England, travelling on a Great British pass port, issued by a European community state. When she put it like that I was a little lost for words. My mothers father was an ulsterman who had strong family ties with Scotland . My mothers mother was a Jock . So am I the only Irish Italian Jock on the forum ?. I am a realist and a patriot of this wonderful country that we live in and am glad to call myself British . Allbeit I am norfolk bred and born . And yes I do have an Italian surname . Harnser .
