Nial
What's that, civilisation? What, where people go out for 'a drink after work'. And have _a_ drink. This doesn't happen up here, makes me feel right at home. Nial

Tam
We cant hold that against them, I say that we let them come again EDIT: Tam will be checking the back of his truck better this year  :yp: Sure will - enjoyed the day but seriously dissapointed at my shooting (in fairness I hadn't shot much for a couple of years) how can someone clear 2 stands & shoot like a donkey on the rest im blaming "jetlag" We hope to attend next year (if it's not much further away) I must say that the layout is one of the best that I have seen It was good to meet everyone & it might be a good idea for a roll call or quick introduction I think even more people will attend next year

Catamong
how about NOECTC Well, we're guaranteed a wet day way Oop there. I'd rather do the floppy droppy end of the barrel jobbies at JJ's. Sporting Targets is looking to be a popular choice, they have the potential to put on a very good layout, but somehow never quite seem to get there, but, Hey Ho, it ain't about the shooting, it's all about raising money. al4x
minor point for the Scottish contingent is both Luton and Stanstead airports are not far away and I dare say there would be enough people coming past both to be able to organise transport. MC
I feel that Sporting Targets would be able to put on a good show for us, I have only shot there once but could really see the potential for a good shoot. And as everyone else is saying there are loads of hostelrys about and plenty of pubs etc so the day before will be a good one.
paulos
I'd prefer Hodnet for the targets, but Sporting Targets have great facilities. I suppose it will depend whether they can/will accommodate us 185 miles eh... That can be done in a one-er
mattslaptop247
I see Levi Roots and Peter Jones have been in the shooting mags this month. Why dont we get them to make an appearance and donate a bit of cash
ME
The geography of where the shoot is doesnt bother me a bit, in fact its nice to go up North once in a while just to reconfirm how nice it is down here Having shot both grounds (Hodnet and Sporting Targets) and having met both owners, I would be trying to book Sporting Targets for this year. Sporting Targets isnt such a pretty ground (Cats description is pretty bang-on) but they have the potential to lay on some interesting birds and the facilities there are nice. Paul223
I pm'ed petethegeek earlier on yesterday to see if he had an interactive map which we could pin our locations on, I think that may give us a better idea of who is coming from where and where the possible shooting grounds are. He is a tad busy at the mo but said he'll see what he can do once he reduces his work load a bit and then may be we need a bit of a discussion on who is willing to travel personally i think it's all pie in the sky until the various grounds have been contacted IMHO it would be more constructive at the mo to suggest possible grounds Myself i would prefer HODNET, cos it is more central, and despite some difficulties (scorers not turning up) they coped well last year
Canis
As a new pigeonwatch member I was't at the last one but it sounds like it could be a giggle. Surely the venue should come south-ish on a handicap by distance arrangement. Bringing it south would also make the likelyhood of rain(which appears to be one of the major problems of holding it up the M1 last time)

magman
I have to add that in reading all this the ACTUAL shooting was insignificant and it was the afternoon/evening before that really made (Or broke) that weekend for a lot of us. Meeting up in the pub the day before, getting ******. All having a meal together and the banter that went with it. Seeing Stealth Stalker devote his entire undying love to Darcy the waitress at silly o'clock. Watching Fatcatsplat drink the Norths alcohol surplus ensuring none went to waste, along with himself and ME drinking the pub out of tequila so they had to lower themselves to drinking sambuca. It really wouldn't have bothered me if the shooting had been cancelled when we got to the ground, for me the weekend had already been a blinder. I understand that the CPSA registered elite shooters only want to shoot clays that are at least 50 yards out and will not even raise a gun to one that is slower than 75MPH but what they really need to remember is that there were 74 people attended that shoot and all put money into the raffle etc and they also want to hit clays. Whilst I thought it was an excellent ground with superb birds my only critisism for the entire weekend is that the shoot was too hard for the average shooter. Noone would have cared in the slightest if Cat, Beretta, Mr potter etc had scored high 90's. But what you need to cater for is everybody, not just the elite. I sincerely hope it does go ahead again and I am prepared to step up to the mark again and help out where I can, BUT I believe we should not go back to Hodnet, we need to move it around. Why not sporting Targets at Riseley? We have a personal contact at that ground and yes it will be further for some people and nearer for others. The year after it could be Southdown or somewhere further north. It really makes no odds to me, if it was held at the Fennes I would still book into a travelodge and end up on the beer the day before. i bet there was not one bird that far out if i wanted to shoot pan lids i would go to jjs by the look of the way things are going we may as well go to a mass **** up and donate money to charity without the shoot Just a thought

They could probably put on just as good a shoot anyway and it would be a lot nearer for us.
JonD
Flame suit on here... Could the format be mixed, say 25xABT 50xSporting and 25xSkeet, 25 Compak or any discipline etc, a mix of targets that doesn't favour any flavour of clay shooter but the live quarry shooters get a reasonable chance, obviously only the larger grounds could accomodate this. Just an idea. Jon.
