Monkey Nuts
Having shot rifles for far more many years than shotguns I naturally shoot with my left eye closed. Just wondered how many of you chaps shoot with one eye closed versus both open? I appreciate this puts me at a disadvantage and I do need to get out of the habit! Would be interested to hear. TIGHTCHOKE
You will be far more able to assess the range of the target with both eyes open!
Churchill
You will be far more able to assess the range of the target with both eyes open! +1 Both open.
Cranfield
I have always kept both eyes open until the second before I pull the trigger, then I shut the left one, works for me. If it works for you, I wouldn't worry about it.
srspower
Unless you have eye dominance issues, like me, then keep both eyes open it gives you such an advantage.

Footu
I shoot rifles one eye shut, some keep both open. Shoot clays both eyes open,if dominant eye is on the wrong side some smear Vaseline on glasses etc Rochelle use correct eye.
team tractor
Both eyes open using shotgun and rifle . I can only shut my right eye but I'm right eye dominant lol

fruity
Tried with both eyes open on clays but couldn't get on with it, so I use my rifle and shotgun with one eye shut, my scrores are good and marksmanship fine, so carry on as I am
samboy
I shoot Olympic skeet with both eyes open but for Sporting and Abt i shut one eye. I feel for longer targets with one eye closed i can pinpoint them better. But most of my pals shoot with both eyes open.
Gimlet
I have a dominant eye problem. I'm right handed but left eye dominant. If I shoot with both eyes open, I see two sets of barrels with the predominant image seen side-on from the left hand side. All I need to do is dim my left eye rather than close it altogether. Close it very slightly and immediately the right eye takes over and the side-on double image vanishes and I've got a single image of the bead without losing stereo vision. Takes some practise to do it automatically though, and I reckon a lot of misses in the heat of the moment are down to not dimming that eye. Guess I need to put in more time on the clays till it becomes an automatic reflex.
Essex Keeper
Was in the same boat always shot rifles then got into clays etc more I have Left eye dominance issues Best thing was a friend putting a tiny bit of tape on my glasses on my left glasses lense covering makes my right eye take over I'm now hitting high 46/50 on a 60 bird shoot Many people shoot one closed and I can but the glasses trick make it a lot easier
Penelope
My dad has the same and shoots a full cross over stocked Hellis boxlock. Tis' weird to use. He used to close/squint his left eye, but shot inconsistently. Since he bought the Hellis about 25 years ago, his shooting improved no end. A dear option though. I have a dominant eye problem. thepasty
I have to shoot eye closed due to the wrong eye dominance, I still do alright
Monkey Nuts
Going to have a bash at the clays on Friday and see if I can get the hang of this eyes open malarkey! Mike King shoots with just the one eye as that's all he has and I believe he either shot for or coached the England clay shooting team? claycrasher
Both eyes open for me Monkey Nuts. I've only been shooting for a short while but find if you can keep both eyes open then you see where the clays flight path much better and can hit a few. demonwolf444
My left eye is so dominant with both eyes open i only see out of my left. Even still to shoot a rifle i always close my right eye, but if i do it when i shoot shotgun its miss miss miss. So both eyes open for shotguns, one eye shut for rifles, and its usually about half way through the pheasant day when i realize i have one eye closed when i'm shooting
Milkfloat
Anyone use the sight which is designed to help with this? Yes - Easy Hit bead or similar. I have one and am still trying to see if it works or not. If I try and 'rifle aim' then it works - but seeing as it is a shotgun I should be pointing and swinging - so it is not working too well for me. I will persevere a while longer. utectok
Left I dominated 4 me and now shoot left handed both eyes open made the change when I was a lad so don't notice it. Still ain't a brilliant shot though but that would take Devine intervention I reckon
