keg
The man is a waste of space. The party has hung off the coat tails of either Labour or the Tories. He is as upper class as Cameron just tries to hide it. They seem to think they will get elected on their own standing next time...No way. The policy is just another vote grabber. Free school dinners should be means tested and given to those who need them, same as any benefit. I reckon this will be good for at least 4 pages. aris
There is already a free schools meal programme for those who need it. My kids wouldn't touch a school meal with a barge pole anyhow.

zx10mike
i dont have kids but the goverment seems hell bent on giving benifits and help to all who want to fill the country up even more.my neighbors are much better off than us but my tax money gives them tokens for nursery, schools, maternity leave, etc.i say if you can't afford to have kids dont have them.you get nothing if you choose not to have kids. the goverment is running the country like a pyramid scheme x amount are retiring so we need x amount paying tax and x amount of imigration and kids for the future.this will work for a while till the country is to full then what happens. i don't do kids can you tell. fore the love of god don't get me started on imigration
Lampwick
Funny enough I went to my boys school for school dinner with him and his mates today. It was really good. The schools take up of free school meals is poor (about 30%) go figure!! Unfortunately the fact of the matter is too many children go to school on empty stomachs or have rubbish pack ups! Now I don't need the free meal and am happy to pay for it if the saving is used positivly. I presume its been done or all to avoid stigmatising the less well off! What other way could they do it? sitsinhedges
There's no such thing as free, working people will be paying for it thru their taxes whether they have kids or not.
pigeonblasterian
They should give the kids some pocket money on a Friday when they finish school. Then the poor peoples kids will be able to get an ice cream on a weekend. I am all for giving others hard earned cash to needy kids.

Grazy
it's all the kids that will be paying our pensions, It's a concern then that a large proportion of them coming into work have such a poor work ethic. They all want big money for little work and will only do certain jobs and happy to claim dole rather than take any job. I've been working 15 years now since leaving Uni across Investment banking, telecoms and now data centres and it seems across the board that early 20 somethings (with some exceptions) are just plain lazy. The benefit culture doesn't help and I just hope the government fixes it quick and the younger kids realise even quicker that if you want something, you need to work hard for it. unapalomablanca
They want to scrap the stupid idea and give the £600million a year back to taxpayers who don't have children. Its just socialism, nothing more and nothing less. The vast majority of people can and do afford to feed their children, so whats the point? Lord Geordie
Free school dinners should be means tested and given to those who need them, same as any benefit. I can see this as a good thing. Those kids who need a meal then fair do's, Kids from a well to do back ground can still be neglected the basic needs such as a meal! So again a good thing. I understand people seeing this as another help the rich stuff the poor thing, but come on! We are talking about CHILDREN. Surely no matter if their parents are rich, poor, black or white they deserve the best treatment available.
mel b3
the government have wasted my tax money on much worse ideas , id much rather my money was spent on providing a meal for a child rather than spending it on a homosexual muslim support group , or expenses for some crooked millionaire mp . zx10mike
but at the end of the day there will be some woman who sits on a till 39 hours a week for a pitence with no kids paying through her tax for a woman who does not need to work lives in a massive house and has 4 holidays a year kids dinners. mrfoxbuster
Although it seems like a nice gesture its a plain and simple vote puller, I suppose there is room for some sympathy, do prisoners get free meals?
Jega
The Romanians and Bulgarians will love this when they arrive next year ,free house ,money without going to work ,free medicine ,free doctors and dentists, now we feed your kids for free as well . If anyone gives you any grief over being a foriegner you take them to the human rights court( for free) and they give you enough money to buy most of your old village back home. UKIP all the way for me boys.

mallet
Why does every benefit have to be means tested? I pay so much tax and see ****** all back. If my boy can have a free meal back then at least that's something. Fed up of benefits meaning live for free in this country. Free Council Tax Free House Free TV Free Food Free Broadband Free Ride!!!! I have no qualms helping the needy but the scrounging users can go jump! bruno22rf
I think its a great idea-to think of feeding this pig swill to ***** kids and illegal asylum seekers makes me feel all warm inside (which is more than your average school meal will do)

We give our kids packed lunch now and save £4 a day. It won't be free for us as our kids are over 7 but if it was free the school meal would still only be a back up in case we run out of bread. Malik
Although in austerity at the moment. Children are the future. I maybe wrong. But wasnt the funeral of the boy that was beaten and starved to death Daniel Pelka today? This would of saved him from half of his suffering. Not all. But some of it. Bleeh
Right. The idea behind this is :-1.) You are crappy at feeding your kids and they are all fat. This long term will effect costs the NHS far more in treatment than having kids with at least some idea of what a healthy meal is supposed to look like. If you or your kid is not overweight, disregard this comment.2.) It causes equality and lets kids mingle and sit together. This sounds stupid but we can all remember that kids where often split into three groups at lunches. Those on free meals, those with packed lunches, and those whose parents could afford to pay for hot dinner eat day. It would separate and class you.3.) Kids need food, it helps them learn. You might of been lucky to grow up in a household that got lunch provided every day, but many don't. In the long term the cost of feeding kids and giving them the best possible go at life is better than paying for them via the state later.4.) Arn't you the bunch who moaned when Thatcher took the free milk away, you bunch of amnesic hypocrites?I'm not saying it's a great idea, but it's certainly not unfounded. goodo123
I don't have kids so why should I be paying to feed someone else's? Especially someone who could afford it more than me. I'm all for investing in education (that's how I got a job) but it just seems less and less of the tax I pay actually benefits me... It may sound selfish but I work for it so surely I should see something for it?
