Man o kent
The modern trend seems to be heavier cartridges, bigger shot (ie 5s), and more open chokes. Just wondered if anyone uses 7s with a tight choke still.?
Hamster
Still ? Have shot 7's out of preference for ever, Archie Coates recommended them too and I bet he'd have used 5's if they were better.

No........ 28gm 7.5 with cyl/1/4 fibre...for a long time. £40 a slab and every one keeps them, so no posting for help as you have run out of your favourite round and cant possibly use any thing else.... motty
My favourite load for pigeon is an ounce of no.7. They kill very well. No need for anything heavier in my opinion.

Dangerous Brian
25g of No.7 goes very nicely in my 20 bore through half choke. I don't shoot massive numbers but over decoys they seem just as good as an ounce of No.

Guest stevo
28 - 30 gram of 6 for me through full choke , for no other reason than I tend to shoot more carrion / Rooks than anything else , however if I was decoying pigeon I would be quite happy shoot an ounce of 7s , but I would still use a full choke . JDog
All of this technical stuff is too much for me what with weights, shot sizes and chokes.
tigger got stichs
I only use 1/2 choke but I tend not to shoot further than 30ish yards over decoys

Berettacocker
1oz no 7 kill pretty well out to about 40yds, if you like to take a lot of longer birds say 40-60yds 32gm 6's do the job fer better. And if you shoot like Stevo,a few rape seeds in a pea shooter should suffice!!!
