Cosd
Many times I have said to myself not to go into or buy anything from the Gunshop Barnet; But every now and again I pop in because he is only about 3 miles from my house. The owner has to be the grumpiest, rudest bloke I have ever come across in any shop. I won't bore you with all the history, but today he has made to want to beat myself up for ringing the shop. I called to ask what the charges would be if I got an Air rifle sent to his shop. He jumped to "I wouldn't accept it", when I asked why his reply was "why would I sell you a gun from another shop"!! "Oh" I replied, "I only called because I got a gun sent to you that I bought off a forum (this one) some years back from a private seller". Without replying to that he went on to ask me what Air rifle I was looking for and I explained it was a Remington Express for £120 and was for a present to someone. He told me about a Crossman for £160. I said that it was a little over my budget and would he be willing to do "anything" on the price. His reply was "are we related"....... Rant over

JimLondon
I know the shop and to be honest whenever I've been there I found the guy (Joe) to be friendly and very helpful, though I have in the past noticed him to be not as friendly/helpful when he's on the phone(not to me I might add). I think he's telephone manner needs working on,or he really is a grumpy *** and I've just caught him on a good day. Either that or he's always grumpy and my chirpy happy go lucky nature cheers him up lol. How is he when you've been in the shop Cosd

Either that or he's always grumpy and my chirpy happy go lucky nature cheers him up lol. How is he when you've been in the shop Cosd The bloke is a tool, 98% of the time. I popped in there one day to look at a gun for my shooting buddy. He'd seen it online and wanted me to look at it for him since it wasn't local to him. It was obvious the "tool" was in upheaval since the shop looked a state. As I went to walk in the shop he looks up as I said "hi" and told me that unless I was going to buy something not to go in because he was getting ready for a shooting show; Turned his back and carried on doing whatever it was he was doing. I've gone in there and been told that he'll be closing for lunch in ten minutes, in other words "make it snappy". When I was trying to buy my first gun many years ago, I popped in there a few times. he knew I was new to shooting and looking to spend up to £500 for a shotgun. He must have showed every piece of cr a p he had, and when I say cr a p I really mean these guns looked like they were dragged to his shop tied to a back bumper. Eventually I bought a gun Browning Medallist from forum, it just had the stock refinished in oil and it looked lovely. When I went to collect it, he opened it up and started telling me what a load of rubbish I'd bought. I could go on and on, but it just makes me feel like a bigger tool for keep going back!! bostonmick
it costs nothing to be polite to customers.and as for he can be a bit off when on the phone well many a sale begins with a phone call.
The Mighty Prawn
It's a cliche but I can't believe the awful service we tolerate from places hoping to take our money! It beggars belief how some places make you feel like you're inconveniencing them by coming into their commercial enterprise.
RED BEARD
Glad you've named the fella, I hate it when folk moan shops then keep it a secret who they're on about.at least giving folk the chance to be on there guard if they're ever on the receiving end of his ignorant manner. rogcal
Sorry to play devils advocate on this but if he's been a "tool" for such a long time, how come he's still operating? He must be getting something right even if it's not good manners! I can remember an aircraft engineer at an airfield where I once hangared my aircraft and a grumpier old *** you'd never find elsewhere but he certainly new his stuff and despite his serious anti-everyone and everything attitude, he always had a stack of work in his hangar and got the work done very well and on time. Perhaps it was all a facade on his part but by acting the way he did he kept his contact with customers to a minimum which left him with more time to get on with his jobs. When he finally retired and the aero club put an a farewell party for him over a hundred people attended and when he died getting on for two hundred people attended his funeral service. Perhaps I should start being a miserable old *** just to make sure I get more than half a dozen turn up at my funeral (assuming I don't outlive them)
Fuddster
In all honesty I don't know how he's still in business. I used to live nearby about 10 years ago. His shop is small with minimal stock in a none too friendly field sports area ie North London. His attitude stunk then and I vowed never to spend in his shop. Complete obnox. F. figgy
Cosd go in looking for that once in a lifetime gun that your spending over ten k on,don't matter what make you pick as he will be wanting the deal. String the bloody fool along and then be as obnoxious as he is and tell him nah I'm off elsewhere for whatever reason you like. Keep phoning and asking for stuff you know he don't stock and ask him why he don't stick it as you want it. Loads of ways of getting your own back without affecting his buisness. Bird Man
Hi Cos, I have to agree with you mate. This is the closet gun shop to me but I will not spend a penny in that shop for same reasons you have mentioned. I have found the guy to be rude abrupt and a compete $?@;;** In complete contrast, I can't recommend enough the gents at Mays of London or Park St Guns, who can't do enough for you.... Cosd
I just remembered a couple more Classic: A mate went in there with his air rifle asking what he'd get for it against another gun. The tool said he wouldn't buy it because they weren't very reliable. You can imagine my mates face since he'd bought it from that shop about a year before Just recently: My cousin went in there just 2 weeks ago having spent a fair bit there over the years. He offered my cousin £100 on a gun he bought there just over a year ago for just short of £400. My cousin called me and I directed him to Park Street guns where he got around £200 and proceeded to spend over £1000 on another air rifle. Outlander
Glad I live where I do then as we have a good stack of helpfull shops around here. Gazoo
I wonder why you go back, take a hint friend. People only get one chance with me, ****** me off and it will be a cold day in hell before I spend money with you. Of course my shopping world is getting smaller and smaller as I become more like Victor Meldrew, but you have to stick to your principals.
