Scully
I love them all; from all the good old early studios such as RKO, Gainsborough and Ealing, right through to the majors such as Paramount, Universal and MGM etc. There are some true classics made in black and white. Fisherman Mike
Same here...passionate about them...often will burn the midnight oil and sit up and watch one until the early hours... Just the other night I watched Double Indemnity ( Fred MacMurray/Barbara Stanwyck/Edward G Robinson) followed by The Lady Vanishes ( Cecil Parker ) My favourite would have to be Hitchcocks Rebecca ( Olivier/Fontane) Never get tired of them.. Modern Films are too realistic to be true, or completely over exaggerated ( especially the recent Bond series )
Scully
As a young lad I would often sit up late of a weekend to watch films such as 'The Roaring Twenties', 'White Heat', 'The Maltese Falcon' etc. 'The Wicked Lady' with Margaret Lockwood and James Mason is a favourite, along with classics such as 'Casablanca' and 'Wuthering Heights' and 'Bad Day at Black Rock'. There are far too many to mention but my all time favourite film is Capras 'It's a Wonderful Life', very closely followed by Wilders 'The Apartment'. Great stuff. Fabhui
I'm in my mid 30's and love old movies. Just lately the missus has started watching a lot of the old Hollywood musicals and so I've been seeing some of them too. Last weekend she watched 'On The Town' with Gene Kelly, I have to say I really enjoyed it and there was a fair few funny moments.
fern01
I love the old B & W war films from the fifties and have a great collection. MTB, Hill in Korea, Dunkirk, Cruel Sea etc etc
Gordon R
John Wayne hated High Noon - said it was un-American, because he disliked the idea that Will Kane would be left to deal with the baddies on his own. Much as I have time for John Wayne, it was a better film than he ever appeared in.
moondoggy
Love Jamaica Inn, Reach For The Sky, Dambusters etc, etc.
The Mighty Prawn
Loved and grew up with all the old horror from hammer through universal and onwards, one of my favourites is They Came From Outer Space! Not as old as that but Forbidden Planet was on over Crimbo at that is amazing apart from the bad effects, Leslie Nielson playing it straight is so strange though when you're used to "its a big building with doctors and nurses but that not important right now"

I also think the Old actors where far better than what we have today. I watched 'Great Expectations' recently also. Wonderful film. I tried to watch the remake with Helena Bonham-Carter et all around Christmas but it was dire in comparison. I'm assuming you've seen the fabulous 'Hobson's Choice' ? Possibly Mills' greatest role in my opinion.

Scully
There are some great old films mentioned here. The Johnny Weismuller as Tarzan films take me back to the 1970's, and Christmas holidays. Very often there would be a Tarzan film on early morning, which my Dad loved as he would watch them as a kid with his brothers in the mobile cinema which visited our town back when he was a kid. I would watch them with him, and although a bit corny now, they are extremely nostalgic for me, as are the others with Lex Barker (another Tarzan) and Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon. For those interested, another favourite of mine if you haven't seen it, is 'Arsenic and Old Lace'. I saw 'Whisky Galore' over the hol's, and the original 'St Trinians' with the marvellous Alistair Sim and Joyce Grenfell. Hitchcocks 'The Lady Vanishes' is well worth a look also. Far too many to mention.

four-wheel-drive
Why is it that in so many modern films they seem to think that to entertain people films have to have lots of graphic violence I have given up watching lots of TV programs for this reason it does not seem to be enough to just shoot or stab someone they have to be tortured to death in graphic detail not for me I am afraid.
