big bad lindz
I will soon have to replace my tyres on my Nissan X Trail and I have been looking about but there to many to choose from. I also don't know if I want to put on winter tyre or a 60/40 tyre or replace like for like as to what I have. I do very little motorway driving and I do live in rural area and sometimes the roads are not treated before I get out shooting in the winter. I also tow my caravan all year in all weather conditions. I do sometimes go off road on farm tracks and onto stubble fields but not major mud slugging. So I am wondering what members of PW would suggest. Cheers PS I have also posted this in the motoring section but I thought I might get a wider viewing on general off topic
bluesj
Any of the AT tyres will do you but I wouldn't go for the BFG's unless you do hi ish miles (Ive changed loads with masses of tread but the shoulders have given up) Hankook or Coopers seam good for the money, I've got hankooks on my truck
southeastpete
Try yokohama geolanders, good on price and performance.
PhilR
Just ordered four Pirelli ATR for my Disco3 in 255/55/19 size. They have a good write up on the Disco3 forum. The farm where our game shoot is gets extremely muddy with deep ruts once there's some rainfall.
Tam
My BFG AT's have done 65K & shoulders/side wall's are OK Edited to say General Grabber AT's were worn out at 30K :( Edited August 11, 2015 by Tam
Cosd
I've just fitted a set of General Grabber AT2's after much research on the Land Rover Forums. Most people say they get over 50k out of a set. So far I have found them to be very good off road having taken them over fresh disc'd fields. My previous tyres would slip constantly making the traction control go nuts, it didn't come on once with the GG's. Quiet on the road too and they look like they mean business which is a plus. big bad lindz
The all terrain tyres are hard to come by in the size that I want / need 225-55x18. I have emailed a couple of tyre suppliers and still waiting for some response from a few. So far I have been quoted £125 for Yokohama G012. Looks a good tyre but I will wait and see if I get any other response.

Tyres + delivery works out at around £420 and then I will have to arrange fitting but still worth a look at. I am still waiting for replies from a couple of local tyre dealers. Redditch
I have the General Grabber new pattern AT, works fantastic on road, very high aquaplaning resistance too. Good on grass, gravel, and light mud, very quiet. Good in snow too, but as with almost any tyre (or get studded winter tyres) useless on black ice LOL. Had a search round and got them at my local garage for £500.00 for the FIVE, balanced and fitted included. Bit of a weird looking pattern, but it works, and well. stumpy69
If you are not in a great rush get onto http://www.tyreleader.co.uk and http://www.oponeo.co.uk and get a local fitter/garage to fit them for you, they usually charge £15-20 for this. Even with the fitting charge no-one has ever been able to come close to the prices you can get tyres from on these sites, the two vary their prices so compare the two and go for the cheapest. The tyres usually come from france or Germany so take a few days but postage is included in the quoted price.

BrowningDJC
Another vote for the general grabbers, had the at2's and now the at's. Good tyres.
rimfire4969
On my 90 I have Enduro Runway AT's, these were on it when I bought the motor. Going through a muddy field that I have been through 100 times before in my old 110 with BFG's on with no real problems, I managed to get fairly stuck and only some fantastic driving on my part saved me . Self clearing tread they are not, I ended up with about 4 extra inches of mud on my tyres. I will be replacing them with either BFG's or Grapper AT or AT2's. Jay_Russell
I went with cooper at3's on my l200. Very very impressed so far. Quite on the road, good in the wet although we havnt had that much rain. Superb in normal mud conditions though, so much so ive hardly used 4x4 yet before it was a daily thing
Xr1200
Bfg's are excellent I've got a set on my defender there quiet on the road and excellent in snow and they do loads of miles

stuey
Just put a full set of Accellera Iota's on my wife's quashqai. Spot on for the price - about £55 each for 18 inch alloys. Budget tyre apparently, but Have been great at motorway speeds and in the wet. Nice tread pattern, and not noisy. The disco was for day to day use and some serious offroading at weekends. Didn't miss the disco when i sold it,but I miss the tyres.
al4x
To much of a jump. Would cost to much for the additional insurance thanks anyway Or 245 70's about the same diameter, cheaper tyres and better fuel economy
fat_jay
Can i mix these up, just got an xtrail, has General grabbers all round, but the fronts could do with replacing in the near future. Is it ok to go for a different brand of tyre, but stil 50/50 whilst keeping the Grabbers on the rear?
