bubble
Hi As the title suggests my mower is dying I have a 30m by 10m of grass, a large ish garden lawn, level, good grass I have been using a hayter roller push 16 inch petrol Don't need a roller, so Petrol 4 wheel, collector, driven,18 inch?, circa £400-£500 What should I choose Thanks in advance
Sussexboy
I bought a Webb WER19A at the start of spring this year. My lawn is smaller than yours but on a slope. It has an ally deck, is self propelled and cuts down to 10mm which is a lot lower than many other mowers out there. My grass is looking better than it has for some years. paul1966
can't help with choosing a new mower but if you want to get rid of the old one i might be interested in it for a repair project depending on price, my cheapo mower is on its last legs too. Dave-G
Our petrol jobbie packed up about 6 weeks ago and I got thinking there must be cordless ones available these days and started Googling 'cordless mower' There are oodles of them lol, and since we only have small lawns front and back chose a £99 one from Argos in the knowledge we could return it if it was not liked. It's chuffing brilliant for a small lawn, but you would need a larger one. There are plenty to choose from if cordless appeals to you, no pull starting and no cable, and no issues turning it over to clean it after use. kennett
Viking? Think my self propelled, 18" cost me 250ish from local ag merchant
littlerob
Here is a decent mower been using one for work for one day every week for 8hr days for 18months now cheap and even cuts wet grass of http://www.mowdirect.co.uk/oleo-mac-g53-tk-allroad-plus-4-self-propelled-lawn-mower.html
chancer2
Don't buy it in Summer, prices are higher. I got a 19" Champion premier with a Honda 5.5hp engine 3yrs ago. Only rust will demolish it. £82. Look on the bay but keep it local. A bargain will come up sooner or later from November to February. you just got to keep looking. Paddy Galore!
I bought an atco self propelled with a B&S 150cc motor from ben burgers earlier in the year for under 400, it works and starts really easily, all I had to do to get a decent cut was turn the blade upside down so I get a nice close cropped lawn. SpringDon
Don't think cordless will do that size. Hayter harrier is still good, Viking or husky lc153. Edited August 24, 2015 by SpringDon
Chris Bb
If Hayter's quality and build remain as good as it was some years ago (my petrol mower's a positive antique) I'd stick with them.
VicW
Have a look at Honda mowers. Vic.
ditchman
as said before ...go for whatever has a aluminium or UPVC cutting deck.......cause that is what causes the short life of a mower (usually)...it rots/rusts out
biketestace
EFCO mowers are great, they use Honda engines
Dirty Harry
I second what Ditchman said. I've got a Lawnflite Pro with a 21 inch alloy deck and Honda engine. Bit big for what you want and expensive but I've had it for 6 years ad the deck is like new. A steel deck would be on the way out now. My lawn is 40x25 meters. malkiserow
I got a Honda with a polymer deck and still use it since 1991 - starts brilliantly every spring. I changed the spark plug twice the oil every year and the pull-cord and air filter once each. I cut the lawns and use it to mulch soft green cuttings from the boarders. It the patio is a covered with leaves, I use it to suck up all the leaves which it does very well
rodp
I still use a Flymo I bought about 26 / 27 years ago We're now getting rid of the lawns so it's outlasted me

norfolk dumpling
Husquvanna (is that how it's spelt) with Honda soft start engine. Best of both worlds ie Scandinavian build and an excellent motor. Mine cost £380 on offer and now on second year cutting 1/3 acre of mixed grass. Couldn't fault it - SWMBO even uses it sometimes.
