grrclark
Talking of commoners, im a binman. It is odd how we tend to pigeonhole ourselves into a category on the basis of what we do for a living. The measure of the person is not how they earn their pennies in life, but how they choose to influence and interact with society at large. Far too many people will make a judgement based on a perceived status of a job and I cannot think of many things that are shallower, whether it is someone judging a bin man or whether it is a high earning banker. Judge the person and not the profession or pay packet is the best way. We are mostly all commoners Mel in that the 'common' state of things is that we have to work to pay our way through life

Nial
Electron management. "The measure of the person is not how they earn their pennies in life, but how they choose to influence and interact with society at large" There's also the distinction between those who get out of bed in the morning and go and do a decent day's work, at whatever, and those that don't. We are mostly all commoners Mel in that the 'common' state of things is that we have to work to pay our way through life Ive never pigeonholed myself, but, lots of the public that ive come across over the years have lol. I had a comfortably paid job in the automotive industry, as always in the automotive trades, redundancy was on the horizon, i started to take a look around and after speaking to a very good mate, i realized that a binman can earm more money than managers in many other industries. Ive never had any hang ups over job snobbery so i jumped ship, my only considerations were paying the mortgage and the welfare of my wife and kids. Apart from higher wages, the even bigger bonus was lots more time for family and much less stress.

I wanted to be a gynaecologist, didn't get the Job they told me my arms were to short so ended up working as a registered farrier. A bloke who used to work with us had a penchant for t-shirts with humorous motifs but one of his best was one which proclaimed: 'I'm not a gynaecologist...but I'll have a look'.
