Dekers
They may well be slumming it to some extent but remember this is TV, not everything is quite as it may seem!
shaun4860
I refuse to watch them anymore, They get some "celebs" to do a couple at most nights on the streets and for what? It's the same when they get them to live for a week on benefits, or tell us about how much people in the third world need our money for water......they then go back to their millionaire lifestyle feeling smug because they have told us how to spend our money Most people can do a week on the benefit amount, make them do 6 months or so, Watch Alex Brooker on last weeks "The Last Leg" tear into Iain Duncan Smith for attacking the PIP payments, Can't post it on here because of the language, but he makes a great point Sorry for the rant
Hamster
I was hoping we could see past the celebs and see the normal souls affected.
oldypigeonpopper
hello, do you think there are far to many reality tv programmes on? can you remember mr portillo on what is it like being a single mother? stayed with them for 1 week, he got £6,000 she got !!!!!!!!!. did not the budget state today more money for the homeless? shaun4860
I was hoping we could see past the celebs and see the normal souls affected. Over the years there has been some very good documentaries about the homeless, They meet them, discuss what issues they have, sometimes go to wherever they have/are staying and check back in with them on a regular basis, These celeb ones are supposed to increase the viewing figures...... I can't imagine what it must be like to be genuinely homeless in modern times, especially with all the bad weather we have been having , there but for th grace of god......... digger
without dragging this off the original post about the show I was homeless for a year. Living in barns, cars and bus stops. Being homeless is mighty hard in towns, in rural areas it's soul destroying. Luckily I had a job but the wages wouldn't cover rent, I soon learned that the warmth of a couple of pints in the local would increase the cold at 3.00 am. Too proud to tell anyone I had no where to live, showered at work and used the local laundrette for warmth and washing clothes. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. This is what I'm getting at, these people are not all drug addicts by any stretch of imagination, truly shocking and I just despair that we can afford to drop £100k bombs on derelict shacks but as an advanced society we haven't figured out how to avoid such basic things as making sure those in need can at least sleep on a dry bed at night. nobbyathome
I watched it and thought it was pretty good and the celebs all did OK and showed a lot of sympathy for the way homeless people have to live except willie Thorne what a total goon a week sleeping on the street and he had to have two nights in a hotel trying to tell his story of how poor he is after his gambling habit he deserves to be on the street
ElvisThePelvis
I thought this was good as by using 'celebrities' it would definitely create a larger audience, especially by being on BBC1 However, I think charities need to think about what message they sent out. When I donated last night I got a text back thanking me for my donation which would help 'poor people in the UK across the world' in other words gets chucked into the pot. This has really got my goat, I already help various poor people in the UK and across the world by paying income tax which is dispersed by our illustrious leaders (and seemingly pays for 3rd world Dictators to have new Rolls Royces or missiles to fire at us) In really didn't want this money to get thrown into the generic pot, but to help homeless people. As time goes on I find the behaviour of charities to be worse and worse and as such I support less and less (albeit to benefit of air ambulance and RNLI), I really think that they ought to look at what they are trying to achieve.. bruno22rf
What a load of carp...we ended up hearing as much about our poor "Celebs" as we did about homeless people ( one of who was not homeless and one who had been offered a council property but did not "want to live in a box") . Some could afford drugs but told how they had been driven into the habit ( which we are expected to foot the bill for their numerous half hearted attempts at rehabilitation) and the common denominator seemed to be that it is all someone else's fault ....well not always chaps. ElvisThePelvis
Yes, it did appear that some suffer victim syndrome. Although it seemed to me there were some serious mental health issues at the root of the problems which really isn't their fault. Willy Thorne seems to be the most selfish person around. I thought the end was a failure as well, a longer interview with each one on their experience living on the street, & had their opinions changed about the homeless, would have made the program better. Willie Thorn outted himself as being an immature, selfish and self centred tool. A monumental mistake on his part - up there with John McCririck's career ending stint on Big Brother. And what ever happened to Nick Hancock - he was everywhere, on everything and now....
digger
without wishing to totally derail the thread I managed to keep it from my family who lived in Devon at the time. If I met them up here I would get them to drop me at the start of the farm track and say their car would get messed up if they drove up it. Finally got found by the farm manager in the calving barn at 3.00am one morning and he contacted my brother who moved to the village and rented a flat for us. Now realise being homeless is rarely through choice/bone idleness or fault. Dark times but in the past

Remember this is supposed to be the 1st world. Patronising-tastic! Homelessness is one of a thousand first world problems. What is the difference between a homeless person on the streets of London or a homeless Syrian refugee apart from maybe 1000 miles distance? The TV show will run, some will text in a fiver donation and then next week it will be something else. In the meantime Willie Thorne makes a tit of himself and that's what people will remember and take away.

The difference with the so called advanced nations is that they're meant to have got a grip on the absolute basics of food, shelter and warmth, if we can't provide even that for the population then what indeed is the difference . bruno22rf
What if we can provide it but some people just don't want to have it? Hard to feel sorry for the Tit that was on the street but had been offered accommodation - his answer of drinking his problems away is 100% self inflicted and no amount of money thrown at a waste of space like that is going to help. Loved Willie Thorne on the program and his plight had me in tears....a night in a hotel because he had a swollen ankle? - not laughed so much in ages - pathetic.
