Yeah but the wording gives the home secretary the power to cut BASC out of decision making does it not? We can't go on a promise. At least the petition will force parliament to respond and give us clarification on this issue.

Totally agree. What the petition does is let government and police know that this has been spotted by the shooting community. They will be forced to clarify the role of the shooting community in any consultation. An assumption that they will always do that is foolish to say the least. Edited by TommyB

BASC are working to ensure we and for that matter others, are included, in our formal response - which you can see here:http://basc.org.uk/blog/press-releases/latest-news/basc-responds-to-plans-for-change-in-firearms-laws/

We have stated:

At subsection 5 to this clause, the Home Secretary is required to consult the National Police

Chief’s Council and the chief constable of the Police Service of Scotland before issuing

guidance. BASC asserts that this duty should be extended to shooting stakeholders. The

Home Office routinely draws upon the shooting community’s expertise already by asking for

comments on each new tranche of its guidance. This arrangement ought to be formalised.

Moderators on licence as component part, really? How is this useful? The argument can't be that they would fall into the hands of criminals as you could just as easily have one made or buy an air rifle suitable moderator, which is also suitable for a rifle, and use that.

Frankly, the whole moderator thing is daft in my humble opinion.

The link doesn't work now.

Can't understand why; it's still working for me. :hmm:

It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching can help. ??

Sorry, don't know what else to suggest ( unless you google ukshootingnews ) as I can't send it again as I deleted the email as soon as I posted it. Still working for me for some reason when I click on the link in my initial post.
