LG are the guns you plan to sell important to you?

When you get sorted are they guns you would buy back given the chance?

If so, would it be more acceptable for you if the collective bought your guns and someone held them until you could buy them back.

People, may I suggest we're all pulling a little too much in different directions, it needn't be this complicated. The OP is never going to agree to strangers getting together to help, we know that already. It's not charity but a simple gesture of goodwill and help for his son, not him. May I suggest a MOD with the appropriate Paypal account allow us to deposit our pledge and for him to then simply forward that with our collective best wishes.

hmm... I'm a bit of an expert at 3d printers. I worked for 3D systems, and I designed and built quite a few of them in the last few years; as much as monetary help is not needed, I'd be delighted if the OP or anyone else bounce things off me before splashing a large amount of cash on a printer...

There is a LOT of **** out there, and in fact, MOST printers requires a lot of work to 'tune', and the results are not often up to what people might imagine they get for 'that' sort of money...

Perhaps the OP's son might be more interesting in buying a kit printer, and build & tinker it? Sometime the 'way' is more interesting than the 'goal' (I'm well placed to know what, I barely print anything with my toys ;-))

If this is possible this gets my vote

Chaps, at the risk of offending some, may i suggest that the horse is dead and we ought to stop flogging it.

Despite the very well meaning intention of all who are offering to contribute LG has been absolute in his intention regards this.

It is LG's lad and it is LG who guides him on his path through life every day, he is best placed to decide on the solution most appropriate in respect to this situation.

If ever LG is happy for the PW collective to support his lad then I shall be delighted to contribute, but until then let's respect LG's choice and give him the dignity of that not being challenged, regardless of how well meaning we are.

LG apologies to talk about you in the 3rd person.

I can see where LG is coming from with wanting his lad to understand about earning rather than expecting, so if I may, another solution could be if the funds were adequate...

Come along to the charity shoot, bring the lad too, get him to buy some raffle tickets you never know your luck there could be a printer in the raffle prizes.....

Just a thought

From reading the topic head to tail, I think grrclark is absolutely right. It seems that LG has been clear in his intention with regards to any donations, and the admirable reasons for his decision. I think that these should be respected. Nevertheless it must be said, it is (once again) a phenomenal offer of generosity from PW members.

Someone previously posted that perhaps a mod could be involved in the fundraising if it were to happen. For a variety of reasons, and as I have replied to a couple of PMs suggesting the same, this is not something that is appropriate for PW or a moderator to be directly involved in. So if LG (or any other member in the future) did want funds to be donated, then it would require a member or the person themselves to collect the funds.

Sorry to hear of your troubles LG - wishing you the best of luck getting this sorted for your lad :good:

But only when giving to a charity !

Dot think that is true I'm a member of a gun club and all the members sign the tax slip and the club gets the money and we are not a charity...

I was trying to keep it simple - Communtiy amateur sports clubs can benefit from Gift Aid as well as recognised charities

Hi Buze!

What is your take in the printer he likes? Bearing in mind I don't want to burst his bubble! Apparently its rated one of the top ten? I think that's more for cost and quality of print?

He needs a fairly big print bed he says! I am all for saving him a few quid of possible as it means getting it sooner! I like the idea of building one, as it would give him a little understanding of how they work! He also wants one that will print an array of plastics!

What would you think a decent quality kit would cost as opposed to the one he likes? I would appreciate any info I can get!

I have the police calling in tonight around 7 to get the details etc,

Guys, thankyou all once again! I am really moved by your generosity, and compassion! Someone mentioned if my guns were special to me! The Laurona is, but the Titan is now surplus to requirement!

I listed the titan online! But not had much interest yet!

Thanks again chaps!

Had the police here for about an hour and three quarters, took all the info they could! contacted Paypal and have to go through some channel to get the info they need!

Can I thank all you guys again for all your kind and generous offers! And definatively say I can not accept! I understand a lot of you feel passionate about this, and some feel I was being railroaded! Can I assure you I was NOT being railroaded at all, and genuinely feel VERY lucky to have such good and caring aquaintances and friends on this forum!

As I say, it's only money! and it was more Chris mental health I was concerned about! Chris and I have got through 20 years so far, and I think with plenty of hard work and a few sacrifices we should be able to sort him out with a printer which suits his needs!

My personal belief is that we need to fall every now and then, to learn how to stand again! there has been such an outpouring of generosity! and caring input. For that I am extremely greatful. Chris has already learned from this, so there is a positive emerging from a negative already! He has now accepted the fact he as lost the cash, and now we just build on this and work toward the future! I have looked after chris on my own now or near 19 years, and we have got through some tough times, and still are! But I wouldn't have it any other way!

I understand how a lot of you chaps feel, and I myself have helped others in the past! I have given away two cars, Guns, Fishing gear, to those who either needed it, or can put it to good use where I couldn't. People starting out! and do feel it's nice to help when you can!

Those extra hours at work are just around the corner now! Once I get those I should be in a much better position financially to get onto the property ladder, and to help Chris back on a sure footing!

To be honest LG, my offer was for me as much as you. I realise I'm very fortunate to have two healthy and well mannered children (26 and 29 now) and It's all but for the grace of God. It would please me no end to help your lad. It's not pity, more a way of me saying thanks to whoever or whatever.

I'll ask again as I'm sure others are doing it for similar reasons. PLEASE let me / us help your son.

I do have a suggestion that might be a happy compromise for everyone involved. Find LG`s Titan and all those who have offered to help chip in part of the asking price. Then as a whole donate the gun to the raffle at this year`s charity shoot.

Obviously I`d ask for LG`s blessing on the idea but as he will only receive what he`s asking for the rifle then hopefully he would be happy with that. He gets the money he wants and the charity shoot benefits from yet another prize.

LG - I wish you and your son all the very best of luck for the future. You are amongst the luckiest of people - You and your son have each other and both know the value of that relationship.

Never let anything come between you.

If you ever need help then just shout - You have many friends.

Hi

Admire you LG

Just a thought could you get Chris to write a bit about what he wants to make with the printer

Seems there's a lot of choices out there and also knowledge as to weather it's the right one

Never know there maybe a demonstration model for sale or a trade in for a upgrade

Just a thought

All the best

I will ask him when he pulls himself out of his black pit of a bedroom!

He will be a little happier this morning! I managed to raise £50 for him this morning which he can pop in the bank today! Were there anyway getting a statement and some clarity for te police officer who is popping back at 2 today!

I will find out what it is he wants to print off, I only know it is game figures and click lock parts to assemble larger items from singular items!
