What is the latest re GP's licence renewal fees?

It's potentially a very sensitive predicament. If your GP insists on payment and the debate gets a bit heated, could this be perceived as aggressive behaviour and ultimately count against you?

Then simply don't allow the debate to "become heated", anyone who would lose their temper and start shouting at their GP over this probably shouldn't own a licence.

If the GP refuses to sign it you can't force them to with nasty words, you'd probably just say good day and leave, plus make a complaint officially!

I think its simple enough to sort out, just ask why you have a bill to pay if it is just for responding to the initial request from the police tell them you are not paying because they did not have to do anything if it is for a follow up report then ask for a copy of what has been sent to the police, if you don't get it don't pay. If you get a copy but do not agree with what is in it don't pay.

Some peoples notes can have things in them that are not very professional.

BMA webpage tells doctors:

"you must

- seek confirmation from the patient and agree a fee before undertaking the work

- respond to the Police within 21 days

- if responding within 21 days is not possible (for whatever reason), contact the police as soon as possible"

https://www.bma.org.uk/advice/employment/ethics/ethics-a-to-z/firearms

Obviously I do not know whether the OP had discussed this with the doctor, or whether the invoice came as a complete surprise (and therefore contrary to BMA published advice).

I've got my renewal going thru right now and had my Doctors surgery call me today asking for £40 to respond to the letter from the firearms dept. I thought there was only supposed to be a fee if further investigation was required ???

Why did the police write to your doctor in the first place or does this apply to all licence holders

Who's up for renewal

New policy. They now write to every certificate holders GP asking them to put a marker on the patients record and to inform them if the certificate holder if they have any concerns.
