rovercoupe
I dont normally frequent my local rfd on a weekend as it can be really busy but called in to grab something i needed and the customer infront was looking for a bb pistol to shoot indoors and didnt seem to be the sharpest tool in the box and was not interested being told about backstops and then 2 real nice guys came in to collect air rifles and the one with the hatsan that needed a gunsmith to setup the scope got a right pasting for bringing it in cocked and loaded! Of course it was not his fault as he just bought it off some guy then bought it in allegedly....... Then he went on to tell his mate he had a pile of junk as someone had tried to up the power and made a right mess of it. The joys of tracksuit wearing baseball capped yoofs! ShootingEgg
And who said airgun licensing is a bad idea? Wont stop this happening outside the rfd's. Just will be like any other ilegal doings. Still the dumb dumbs about that will do it in shed or garage.
bumpy22
And who said airgun licensing is a bad idea? i agree with your idea. but what a mess they made of the air cartridge licensing. i think this would go the same way except we would be paying extortionate prices
HDAV
For this reason I couldn't work in a rfd, you need the business but many of the customers I see going in to buy air guns I would sell a cap gun too..... Most leave empty handed bemoaning the price but not all.......

Bazooka Joe
Not only the popgun squad........I was in a local gun shop a few weeks ago waiting to be served, there was a bloke after a 243 at the counter looking at a few rifles, he couldn't make his mind up. The lad behind the counter handed him one of them, it still had the bolt in, & looking at it he turned round, faced a family that was a few yards away to his left buying fishing tackle for their younger son, with it pointing mid height. Never seen the lad behind the counter, or him check to see if it was safe, also surprised to see it with the bolt present.
GingerCat
Anyone remember Streatham armoury? Everytime I went there I saw a few asking about the replicas and if they were powerful like in the movies etc. The shop keeper got bored of telling them they weren't real. guzzicat
In the sixties in "Steve Smiths " gunshop near Greys monument in Newcastle one Saturday, the usual crowd of us fowlers were talking, A man pushed his way to the front,& in a very clipped abrupt manner started telling Steve of the gun problem he had,as he pulled gun from the slip" Fired the ****** gun yesterday, can,t get the ****** gun open" "you did fire both barrels"asked Steve " Whats that, I ****** hope so" he then pointed gun at floor & pulled the other trigger!, |it had been fired, man left with brush hanging,in minutes Steve ,with a cleaning rod had Knocked the offending firing pin back,& opened gun all the while commenting on the man,s apptitude. A proper gunsmith& an old school shop, his wife Peggy was charming too, sadly all gone.
Vince Green
Many years ago the nut that held the base on my mates spotter scope dropped off and he struggled to find a replacement. Off to the gun shop were he originally bought it he walked in and said "I was wondering if you had any spare nuts" "Oh yes" says the shop owner "we get plenty in here" It goes with the job. Mentalmac
I was in my local RFD when a typical townie guppy who's moved to the country was in, and was annoyed about rabbits. He asked to buy an air rifle, and then started saying - "so, I just point the cross thingy at the middle of the rabbit and pull the trigger thingy?) Scary. mick miller
Some of the RFDs can be a tad thick themselves, just try asking for bullets and being handed complete rounds, 'oh, you mean heads?', no muppet, I mean bullets.

Think if I were the rfd id take the rifle back at that point and hand over a business card of a pest controller.
