A.J.P.
The European Commission's back at it again with a typically egregious diktat relating to the ownership of semi-automatic firearms and their ancillaries. They've just released this statement (available here in full https://www.parlament.gv.at/PAKT/EU/XXV/EU/12/28/EU_122858/imfname_10671764.pdf): "Following two trilogue meetings, the co-legislators were still unable to agree on the revision of the Firearms Directive. These negotiations must be unblocked to take military grade assault weapons off the streets including those converted to semi-automatic use. The Commission’s position is clear that semi-automatic assault weapons derived from the “AK 47 Kalashnikov family” and the “AR 15 family” should be banned for civilian use given that they were designed for military use. Magazine sizes for short and long firearms should be limited to 10 rounds and should be subject to authorization and stringent checks and any derogation should be strictly limited and tightly controlled. EU citizens expect swift progress in this area to ensure their protection, so we must reach agreement before the end of 2016 on this key piece of legislation." To summarise, the EC want to ban specifically: Civilian firearms of “AR 15 family”, and derivatives Civilian firearms of “AK47 family”, and derivatives ALL detachable magazines above 10 rounds (also for handguns, repeating-firearms, rimfires etc.) Introduce strong regulation of magazines and semi-automatic firearms Here's a link to an article on this latest development: http://firearms-united.com/2016/11/19/ar15-ak47-ban/ The EC's trying to get this all rubber stamped before year's end, so now's the time to make some noise. I'd recommend everyone (even those without an immediate vested interest!) write to your MEPs on the issue. The easiest way to do this is via the WriteToThem webpage: https://www.writetothem.com/?gclid=CJKZn-OXt9ACFYcp0wodK-UKNw In addition to your MEPs, it would also be advisable to write to both: Vicky Ford - Conservative MEP and IMCO Chair & Rapporteur (vicky.ford@europarl.europa.eu) Anna Maria Corazza Bildt - IMCO Shadow Rapporteur (annamaria.corazzabildt@europarl.europa.eu) They are both in a position to pose some very awkward questions to the European Commission on our behalves. I know that the UK has voted to leave the EU, this however is no guarantee that these "proposals" won't affect us, or that we'll have even left before they're introduced. And of course, the UK government always has the option of adopting EU legislation regardless of whether we're beholden to the EC or not. The European shooting community has voiced a strong and united opposition to the EC's attacks in the recent past. We need to continue this effort to help ensure the best possible outcome for shooting sports in the future. Edited November 20, 2016 by A.J.P. subsonicnat
I quite agree,We do not require or need any War weapons.. They were designed for mass killing,as Paris has proved.. They have no reason to own such weapons,Ban them is ok in my book..

Not to mention the potential knock-on effects for disciplines such as Civilian Service Rifle. Don't for one moment think that the EC's goal is to actually protect the citizenry of Europe. They have an anti-gun agenda that will only stop when our sport is legislated out of existence as a whole. We're all in the same boat here. Edited November 20, 2016 by A.J.P. They have no reason to own such weapons,Ban them is ok in my book.. i agree, BUT cant help feeling that it may lead to other tighter controls. Also most of these weapons used "illegally", are "illegal" guns as such and have not been legal, licenced weapns that have fallen into the wrong hands. So will this have any efffect on incidents like Paris etc?
CaptainBeaky
Lee Enfields were designed for military use: ban them! Martini-Henry's were designed for military use: ban them! Muskets were designed for military use: ban them! Matchlocks were designed for military use: ban them! They are *still* conflating civilian ownership with terrorist use - which tells you a lot about the agenda behind the ban.

Lloyd90
The weapons used during the France attacks were I believe traced back to Eastern Europe and attributed to old stock piles from the wars there. They are already illegal, unregistered weapons. Just days before a car was stopped and 8 AK 47 rifles were found hidden inside the car body. Tell me now, how will banning these types of rifles and their magazines, stop people who are organised criminals, who already have them in large numbers, who smuggle them into the countries and use them for illegal or terrorist activities? Or is it people like us with 22RF calibres and other law abiding citizens of countries in the EU who will follow the law whilst the criminals carry on being ... criminals! Funny that eh ? I wonder, if we told the criminals that all the other crimes they commit are also illegal, would they stop that too?!

They have no reason to own such weapons,Ban them is ok in my book.. and this is one of the reasons that the future of shooting is going to be questionable going forward. You don't really think that they're going to stop once they ban back rifles, do you?

Lloyd90
Why stop there just ban all firearms, it woint stop terrorists getting that type of firearms illegally like in Paris etc. Yes but at least those MP's can parade about on the news and media telling everyone "Do not panic we have made you safe!", justifying their huge salaries and expenses whilst only interfering in law abiding people's lives. The criminals are probably wetting themselves laughing at how stupid these people are! What's worse is those naïve enough to believe the rubbish that they spout. They have no reason to own such weapons,Ban them is ok in my book.. cant remember a m&P 15-22 22lr being used in war or being designed for warfare can remember seeing shotguns in iraq so with your logic we should band shotguns as they have been used in warfare, also better get rid of the lee en fields and k98 ect has they are pretty effective battle rifles more effective than a 22lr rimfire anyway any firearm can be used as a tool of war so why not just band target shooting and hunting all together in the uk as we will be a whole lot safer never mind sh_it heads will still be running around with illegal firearms no wonder why certain firearms have been band in the uk when the people who are involved in the sport are agreeing with banding certain firearms. shaun4860
So looking at that then, 25/30 shot banana type mags for your ruger 1022 will be banned? This is just the start,
old man
Eventually for our own protection they will all be banned, leaving just the criminals and the state armed? Wow! that means we are really much safer? It will have no ****** effect on the terrorist situation as they know full well. Rats and cheese, nibble, nibble, one day all gone? rbrowning2
Lets hope the shooting organisation unit as one voice to stop this rubbish. What facts do they have to demonstrate the logic behind the stupid conclusions they reach. They just do not understand and just like to use their power to demonstrate how much of a do gooder they all are then look surprised when the country votes to leave the mad house. HDAV
So the SA80 and its .22 derivatives are still fine! Styer AUG also ok, FN FAL all good.......
ordnance
Its great we are leaving. Blackpowder Doint assume when / if we leave the British government wont bring in similar or stricter firearms laws. A statement made to Parliament last week reveals that Home Secretary Theresa May is actively lobbying the EU for a ban on all but .22 semi-automatic rifles. If May gets her way, the whole of the EU will be subject to Britain’s illogical firearms laws. Opposition to her stance is likely to be fierce as the free countries within the EU are known to be strong opponents of any attempt to impose UK-style laws on them. Rewulf
Weve been down this road a few times now. But heres my tuppence worth, how does banning magazines over 10 rounds stop a terrorist,or a psychopath going on a killing spree? So he carries more mags,he reloads what he has. Ban military style firearms for civilian use,it wont make the slightest difference to someone who wants to kill. They do not follow bans,or the law. Rewulf
Aren't military calibres, .303/5.56/7.62 etc already all banned in France? I dont think so,they can still have semi auto centrefires ,so they wont ban the most popular rounds for them. This is what the EU thing was all about some months ago, banning semi auto CFs EU wide. It didnt really apply to us ,as thay are already banned! But the wording made it look like it allowed further bans of say, semi shotguns and rimfires.
