Window putty

I replaced a window in the garage a few days ago, and came out today to find that some bird has eaten a chunk of it (about a 6 inch strip is gone) and there are peck and claw marks all over it.

Is this normal? And when I redo this, do I need to cover over the putty or something?

Yes, its called the Putty bird and over winters in Ireland very common around Wicklow :whistling:

That damn bird! It must be the one who keeps stealing my green pants and jacket, and my orange and beard hair dye!

I was laying in bed one morning when I was younger and I heard a tapping at the window. I turned round to see a magpie pecking away at the putty. Someone else down the road was having magpies doing it to their windows too.

I thought you was going to say there was a beautiful young girl at your window :)

Sorry, can't help with a solution but I used to be a stained glass artist and did some general glazing too.

One morning I'd reglazed the kicking panel on a ladies back door ( no euphemism ). Early afternoon and she asked me to go back and reputty it because her terrier had eaten all of the putty out of the rebate. :hmm:

ah would ya get lost with your fancy beading and silicone!

This aint no upvc double glazed job, this window frame is about 30 years old!

It'll be older than that I guess with putty.

I work on heritage buildings and use bead to look like putty :)
