Painfully low pay, but thinking about it with two people earning that sort of money one could live reasonably comfortably in Lincolnshire.

Could you expand on your reasoning for this statement.are you under the impression that utilities are cheaper here.or fuel costs less.food and clothing is the same as elsewhere.houses may be a bit cheaper but two people earning that would still struggle to raise a mortgage on a reasonable property.

They are all retired plod in Lincolnshire

Yep this ⬆️ The few I have met have been either ret police or army / RAF. They have all done there full time. And some this will be a nice top up without effecting there FULL pensions. Also when I was chatting to mine he was telling me that yes full time is 37.5 hrs a week. But flexible hours. They only spend two days a week MAX ( normally one day in office the rest of week is out and about doing enquiries and all the reports and evidence they write up is done at home witch accounts for half of there working week.

All they really are is admin for the decision makers

I lived in North Lincolnshire for a year and was struck by how much less I was spending on cost of living than in the south west. Housing was the biggest saving but food bills, petrol, water and council tax were notably cheaper.

At 17.5k the take home will also be a much higher proportion than most of us would get, so two people on that will take home combined £2510 a month.

On one salary assuming student loan on the old scheme you would need a single earner on 43k to match that, 40k with no student loan. Most people outside the south would hope that income would support a one income family if need be in my experience. Living on £17.5k on your own however I suspect would be a nightmare.

I'm not convinced by peoples suggestions the pay is fine as a top up for a police pension. If you have other sources of income why does it make your work worth less? A colleague of mine has a substantial trust fund income, does that mean he should work for free or that I should be paid extra?

You do realise that the job is pro rata .the actual hours are 23 per week meaning the pay would actually be just around 9k.also as I am in Lincolnshire I would be interested in knowing where the cheap fuel is being sold as I travel down to Essex frequently and fuel costs are the same.you can buy some food straight off the farm a little cheaper.but that's the same in any part of the U.K.the job is only suited to a retired person who just wants something to top up a pension or fill empty hours.although I doubt the benefits are very good once your pension has been hammered by Hmrc .

I missed that entirely and thought it was £17.5k per annum for a half weeks work.

Supermarket fuel was 2-3p a litre less than at home.
